    Default Bike racks

So I’m looking to buy a bike rack for a Lincoln navigator it must carry 5 bikes. Which one is the best to buy, a bonus would be for it to fit a golf alltrack I have not mounted a hitch yet but will if it makes sense. All bike will be mountain bikes at this time.

Both Thule and kuat has 2+2 setup for hitch mount. I don’t know about 5. I guess you can throw one on a roof rack.

If you're ONLY going to be carrying mtn bikes, it's hard to beat Northshore racks for capacity and cost. They have a 6 bike option https://www.northshoreracks.com/racks/nsr-6-bike-rack/ that's less than a 2+2 platform option from Thule or Kuat. But they don't work with road bikes, or any bike that doesn't have a wide/suspension fork.

Are those are a no-go if you've got kids/youth bikes?

I can get a 16" bike to hang from an NSR. You just need a bungy cord to secure the rear wheel. I've even had a Strider hooked on there.

What Benyl said. You just need an extra bungee to secure the back wheels of smaller bikes. 20"+ work fine with the standard strings. Limiting factor is spacing in the front fork to allow the holding prongs to seat properly. You CAN hack it to work with road/cross bikes, reverse the bike and put the handle bars where the fork would go. But didn't work with the phone mount I had. It can also be a little awkward for shorter folks. My wife had problems lifting my sons FS bike on there, and he's also too small/short. They can both use the platform rack I replaced it with though. Keep that in mind as well

Recon are easier on the bikes than north shore if that’s the route you want to go. Buddy has a 6 bike one and the hinge is nice and smooth even fully loaded

nice those are the racks i was thinking about but you rarely see them in town. the kids are 7,4,2 so they must work with kid bikes, i might get into road bikes in the coming years but i live on the edge of the city so i'd just ride it not carry it anywhere. thanks for the tips

Not sure if these guys are still building custom racks or not but worth an email/phone call
