Most people in general don't care about cars. Getting rich isn't going to turn you into a car guy.
I think that’s a better way to phrase the point I was trying to make yes.

I read somewhere a lower mileage, clean, dealer maintained older s class (02+?). The idea is you must have a lot of money to keep that type of car running on the road.

I don’t know how it’s really a flex to own a car that spends more time at the dealer than on the road. Which an 02 S class definitely would.

To me that screams “need the badge but can’t afford a car that works”

It's a flex cause he has F U money to keep the car running while he can probably finance a new car instead.

To most people this doesn't look like a $300k plus vehicle exterior wise.

Most self made big money people I know are workaholics who have no time for cars anyway. Occasionally people happen to be interested in cars and as such spend big money on them, but car guy workaholic multi millionaires is starting to become a pretty small piece of the Venn diagram.

Not a lot of time for hobbies when all you do is work.
Probably also depends when they made their money. A lot of people just run a car until it dies then buy something else. If I have a 5 year old car that still runs great and sell a business for a few million I'd probably still rock the same car since it runs fine. But you can bet that when it does finally die that I'll buy something nicer because I want it to last and not worry about it. Maybe not Beyond baller nice, but something definitely as a treat.

Working backwards; of the two Billionaires i've spoken to, one drove a Ram 1500 and the other a VW Beetle.
    and a 3rd with a Mid 90s Land Rover.

My pitch: E63 Wagon with Thule on top or Land Rover Defender.

Being an accountant over the years I have always enjoyed seeing how people with such varied incomes will drive such varied vehicles. Everyone has their own priority.

Personally, I think low-key flex pretty much has to be an American brand, as the general public will base the value of the vehicle and the douchiness of the owner purely on the badge on the vehicle. Top level F150 or Expedition or Denali half ton or SUV is pretty low key. Most people have no idea how expensive or nice they are inside. Although to not be a douche, when someone asks what you drive, you have to answer "Ford" or GMC", and not "King Ranch" or "Denali" otherwise you are now trying too hard and obviously are trying to impress.
