I've always gone to Cal-Alta but always end up with a chip a 2-4 weeks later and cracks within a year.
I'm looking for better quality glass, but maybe it's all the same and I should stick with the lowest price. Any other recommendations?

Doesn't cal-alta offer some kind of additional coating on their glass for added durability? I've never sprang for it but it's an option. I personally have been going to them for many years and always happy.

The windshield I got from glassmasters was wavy AF. Haven't been back since.

Most recently I had two vehicles done by the Crystal mobile service, and the quality seems good but the adhesive they used on my dashcams was absolutely useless. Both were hanging by their wires within a couple hours.

I've had my rear view mirror fall off on a hot summer day from Cal-Alta. I've also had a chip repair that spidered into a crack, but I understand it is not guaranteed.
Windshield Surgeons got the best quote so far, but still $100 more then Cal-Alta.

I had OEM glass and I got a rock chip almost immediately. I dont think its the glass quality as much as it is simply 'berta

There are issues with low quality glass other than “chipability”

In our winters our sun angle is so oblique that the visual imperfections of shit wavy glass are unacceptable.

Wavy glass also may screw with all the autostop/smart cruise cameras up front.

Unless you have an ancient car, low end glass market is coming to an end.

I’ve never had issues with “OE” manufacturer glass.

Usually Saint Gobain on my BMWs.

I lost both my windshields on my cars to the cold and new rock chips in three days. My BMW still had the original glass from 08 production, a little sad about that.

I agree that these aftermarket xyg type glass is not as durable as OEM like pilkington etc. Rocks that would cause small pinhole type chips will cause an actual chip on the aftermarket glass. But on my 03 2500hd a cheapo glass was $160 installed so couldn't really complain.

    Bump!

I got quoted $2900 for OEM windshield for my LS430, trying to find an aftermarket option but I’m being told it’s been discontinued. I looked online but not sure how legit the websites are. The glass on it is PGW so I’m assuming the previous owners were able to find it somewhere if anyone know of a shop or where I can find a replacement windshield I’d appreciate the heads up.

Ya I just got my 63 merc done there yesterday. Bit pricey at $725 but it was way more at other places and Kraig is an awesome guy.

Have you tried reaching out to PGW directly to see if the glass is still availible? They may or may not sell to direct public, not sure but thats where I got my glass from for my Infiniti.

PGW = Pittsburgh GlassWorks which is now owned by LKQ Corp.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Thanks! I was able to find the windshield through Vanfax as per PGW’s advice but Vanfax wouldn’t sell to me directly. Waiting on PGW to call me back if they can order and sell to me but that’s better than nothing at this point, much appreciated, if this comes through I owe you a case of beer.

Update: Dominion came through, thanks again Beyond!
