It was pretty cool watching him work, learned a few things as well, turns out Lexus used to be one of his big accounts until they hired his main installer to work in house. Great place, decent price too!

I just had the glass in my wifes Q5 replaced at glassmasters, the price they quoted was HALF what the other companies I phoned quoted. Highly reccomend.

Been trying to get a new windshield for the G80 since July. Been a shit show.

Anyone used the AMI glass insurance stuff before? This glass is too expensive to not have it. I looked at getting glass coverage thru AMA but they just use AMI as an endorsement so it's the same shit anyway.

I imagine it's a wash between buying a window every two years and having insurance. But a person would have to compare some replacement quotes and verify what glass insurance would cover. I assume cheapest generic glass only.

Plus it’s a self fulfilling prophesy. If you have insurance you are getting a new windshield for every crack, if you didn’t have insurance you would probably let a damaged windshield ride way longer.

$2057 for the glass out of pocket. Genesis, Speedy Glass, Crystal Glass, Fusion Glass, Windshield Surgeons.... all the same part number. AMI quotes me $480 per year. Tho I take all that with a grain of salt.

Completely dependent upon where the chip/crack is. When the rock hit, it chipped where it was out of my line of sight towards the drivers side A pillar. Cracked formed immediately and ran halfway towards the passenger side, dead in my line of sight. Couldn't be any worse. If it were at the top of the glass or the bottom, I'd let it ride. Really fucking sucks.

I have AMI. It's my first year and I paid like $315 for the year. Already had a claim for a new windshield that would've cost me $1600. I paid the $50 deductible and was on my way. Claims was slow but they didn't have the part number I needed in their system and it delayed things but Speedy Glass took care of it and was fantastic to deal with. One thing to keep in mind is that AMI has their approved vendors and in Calgary it is Crystal Glass. Speedy Glass was only for the Aidrie location. AMI doesn't use OEM unless there was no other option but ended up with Pilkington glass.

All Hyundai and Kia WS are a mess right now. Lack of aftermarket options and expensive AF. Also, AMI doesn't cover for calibration which can be another 2-300.

Might ask your dealer to see if they provide some kind of third party coverage. Sometimes if your windshield is that expensive it's worth it.

Sounds not bad. I assume AMI pays less than us plebs.

    +1
This is what I went with. I went with what the Manufacturer was offering. It was little Pricey however because of the Deductible and everything else I think that was the better option for me.

I had AMI with my G70 for 2 years, got rid of it. Just was religious staying on top of rock chips after I got rid of it.

If you are on the highway a lot then it is likely worth it. I just was able to get away with 5 years without replacing a windshield.

Went into Speedy Glass today and they say they got the OEM windshield ready to ship from Montreal. Should be in Calgary by next week and Red Deer shortly after. They seemed to think aftermarket simply doesn't exist for this model yet. Anyway, cost is what I already knew.

Highway is exactly where I got the chip from. Such is life in AB.

I am also religious on chips but you spend enough time on #2 even within city, you'll get nailed.

I average a windshield every 3 years. Paying for AMI vs OEM charge for one is like $300-$400 difference at most.

And if some cheap places that can do one for you like Cal-Alta, insurance is pointless.

Agreed on all your points, on 99% of cars on the road AMI insurance is pointless, unless you are breaking multiple windshields a year. The Genesis model windshield prices are nuts and there are no aftermarket options, but even then you have to go through a windshield a year to justify in my view.

AMI is $480 per year for the '21 G80 + $50 deductible + calibration cost.

Out of pocket is $2057 for the glass + shop cost + calibration cost.

Seems worth it for this make/model.

My truck on the other hand has a cheap enough glass cost that makes insurance not worth it.

Insurance, basically a payment plan with an embedded premium, is generally a good choice if the cost of paying for a covered event yourself would cause you distress or hardship.

    Sounds like a good choice
