So I have a question about the whole camera calibration thing. Do stealer ships and places like Cal-Alta actually do anything to "calibrate" sensors? I had Subaru change the windshield on my Forester with the Eyesight back in January. As I sat in the waiting area looking into the service area I watched the Subaru employee drive my car into the service bay, a 3rd party glass shop come in to change the windshield in 30 min and the Subaru guy drive the car back outside immediately. I paid $680 which included a $180 calibration fee. At the time I thought nothing of it until last week that I needed a new windshield again.
I called Cal-Alta and a few other glass shops for quotes and they all said that they would need to recalibrate the sensors and quotes ranged from $450-$600 including calibration.
A coworker recommended Aztec Autoglass as he said that they are cheap and mobile so I gave them a call as I like a good deal
. They told me that the whole calibration thing is basically BS if your sensors are mounted on the car and do not need to be disconnected. They quoted me $315 and changed the windshield in my garage (would have been $30 cheaper if I would have driven to their shop in Airdrie but I ain't got time for that lol)
The Eyesight on the Subaru works great. Tested it out by driving towards the black bin at a good speed and the car auto braked as normal. So then I had them change the glass on my Tacoma and no sensor issues as well.
So my question is; is the sensor calibration just another BS money grab or what?
