No problem buddy. That's what this entire site is for, because otherwise, what's the damned point?

Yes you can as long as it wasn't considered cosmetic surgery. I am sure that the people that did it can write up something saying it was for medical purposes.

Prior to 2015 I think it is you could have claimed cosmetic surgery as a medical expense (boob job etc.). Not so after 2015.

Also an interesting tidbit that a lot of people miss is that in Alberta, massages aren't a legitimate medical expense! So if you've been claiming them as medical expenses and you are audited, CRA will deny them.

    On the medical expense topic...

I have a friend who claimed his medical plan premiums on his HSA. haha

Never thought to do that, instead I would just use it on random stuff (glasses, etc) at the end of the year...

Anyone know if you can claim laser eye surgery as a medical expense? I ended up paying 2800 myself after my benefits kicked in.
You can indeed, my initial response to this topic actually mentioned it. I claimed mine back in 2008

Nothing really stops you, but you are not supposed to, since health spending account it tax free. Might get audited but highly unlikely.
I'm not sure if you're suggesting that getting reviewed for claiming medical expenses on your tax return is "highly unlikely", but if so, I respectfully disagree. The personally claimed items which are most frequently reviewed are tuition, medical and moving, especially if the amounts are drastically increased in any one year.

slightly off topic, but can you claim what you pay into your health benefits plan? Like I have X amount deducted from my paycheque every 2 weeks for my health plan, can I claim that amount?
Spot on, and, if it's done correctly by your employer's payroll/accountant, it should be in a box on your T4 as well (which may flow directly to the medical expenses form on your tax return, depending the software you use).

As other have mentioned, this is a legit medical expense for tax purposes in Alberta. The exhaustive list, broken down by province, is in the following link...
