Default Any Advice on First Canadian Protection Plans (FCPP) Warranty

Hi, I’m buying a dealer-maintained, low-mileage, out-of-warranty Mercedes as a fun vehicle from a Mercedes dealership in Calgary, and they offer a FCPP Used Vehicle Protection Plans warranty. I have to buy it at the time of delivery.

I’ve read some positive reviews in beyond.ca, but overall negative reviews here: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/first...please-563987/

However, the discussions are quite old.

I understand extended warranties that are mostly shady, but I wonder if anyone (customer or mechanic) have recent experience with this FCPP.

    Thanks!

First thing you need to know is that they are massively profitable for both the dealership AND the warranty company. Usually, the price for them is negotiable too.

x2, friend of mine is a business manager at a local dealership, he makes bank off those. You can definitely haggle on most if not all of those type of warranty programs.

I think the general consensus is that FCPP's not here to help when you need them.

There's quite a bit of recent discussions about this company on https://canadiancorvetteforums.com

The most funny comments come from this thread: https://canadiancorvetteforums.com/t...arranty.26623/

"FCPP (owned by Wheaton family)" and "They hate FCPP as well and it's owned by them. Lol."

    Then there is this: https://www.bbb.org/ca/ab/sherwood-p...621/complaints

FCPP weasels out of paying with many fine prints, but this specific comment easily take the cake: "Wear and tear of engine, transmission and differentials are not covered by the policy". I wonder what is considered defect and what is considered wear-and-tear given that engines, transmissions, and differentials should last nearly forever if they are well taken care of.

Better just keep the money in the bank and self-insure.

I used to deal with them 5 years ago as a service advisor and they were a gigantic PITA. Who knows since then.
