And here I always thought IT was just turning computers on and off again and saying no to bigger monitors.

I have voluntarily changed Countries and took up a similar position to what I had in Calgary. The writing was on the wall with most of my major consulting contracts, so I applied to jobs in the United States and landed one a year into my search. I suppose I'm the example of the dude who went fuck it and bailed on Canada. Now that I've been down here for a couple of years I regret not coming down here sooner. The number of job opportunities, the quality of the positions, and the compensation packages make it a lucrative career move. The ultimate plan is to save enough cash that I'll buy some land on Vancouver Island in 3~ish years and work remotely for a US-based tech company. I check in here from time to time, so feel free to leave some questions if you have any.

TLDR; Use the TN1 Visa to get a foothold in the US, win the H1B lottery, and apply for a Greencard if you intend on sticking around more than six years.

What kind of work do you do? What part of the US? I have been thinking about making the move down there as well.

What does that equate to number wise, and what industry?

If you don't mind me asking of course (feel free to decline)

Had a chat with someone who manages one of the larger hotels near the airport. Current occupancy 2%. They don't think anyone else is much better. Currently laying off ALL housekeeping staff and will have one manager clean the one or two rooms a day required.

To me, the only thing that makes Cenovus tempting is that they might get bought. Not going to jump in with both feet on that, but it's still a little itchy to dump $80k into...

CVE is a highly leveraged play. OVV or SU or CNQ all are stronger companies.

So as it seems obvious that they are going under I wonder if people are just dumping all their stock

I work in IT and specialize in Security. There are 60 professions that qualify for the TN status so take a look to see if you'd qualify.

I hate the snow and cold, so I targeted jobs in States that didn't have either of those things, ended up in California.

In times like this, I would ask to not spread rumors unless you think it is ultra reliable. Already lots of stress going around and no one needs to be further stressed from fake news from clowns like CaptainCrunch on Calgarypuck saying crap with no substance on oil company layoffs.
