I am avoiding conversations with my boss. Every day is another day paid.

I received notification of a pay deposit tomorrow. That's a victory. I think he's losing his memory with age and stress, there is a chance he will forget that I exist after a while. I could use someone to remove all traces of me from his outlook. Russah, if you are listening...

My wife's company had to lay off over 230 people out of about 400. Then 5-10% cuts for everyone else. There are still worse places to be and she is still working which is good even if there was a 10% pay cut. They should be temporary though assuming everyone is allowed to go out again soon.

I’m still chugging along as usual, my role is considered an essential service so I expect I’ll be seeing a lot of overtime and this plays out.

Only for 9 more months. Then you'll be laid off for a new employee.

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet:

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/ceno...ries-1.4878931
CALGARY -- Cenovus Energy Inc. is temporarily suspending its dividend and cutting its capital spending plan by an additional $150 million on top of a reduction announced last month.
The company is rolling back salaries across the company, effective May 1. President and chief executive Alex Pourbaix will have his annual base salary reduced by 25 per cent, while other executive team members will take a 15 per cent reduction and vice-presidents and their equivalents in technical positions will receive a 12 per cent cut. Employees at other levels will also see a smaller graduated salary impact.

Board members will have their compensation reduced by 25 per cent.

NCS is dropping ~20% of all North American staff and giving salary reductions of ~20% to the rest. Estimated savings of $12 million/yr. They have also withdrawn the quarterly earnings guidance and not provided any new guidance. That's from a press release today.

Has anybody ever offered to take a lower salary to try to keep from being laid off? I'd rather take 80% than 0%, but I'd also like to not draw any negative attention to myself.

I called my boss and offered, he said just to wait. No percentages were discussed, but he said there was no sense volunteering a bigger cut than what they're going to force us to take.

For 10 months of the year all I think about is how awesome breakup is going to be, now it's here and it's ruined by Russians and Arabs and bat soup.
To wrap this up, if anyone cares, I was given a 13% pay cut April 1 so my boss was right about just waiting I guess.

I don't know how many people we laid off, but I looked at an email sent to the field staff on Mar 31 and another one on Apr 2. The first one was sent to 42 guys, the second one to 17. Oilfield services.

Left POD at the end of March and assumed an equity stake/director role with a go to market firm in California, focused heavily on cybersecurity. Feels like the right call given the shit show we're all living in.

How did you find that role in California if you don't mind me asking? What about getting a visa?

I tried to turn in my plunger and pipe auger today but my boss knew what was up and wouldn't let me speak. I am the best in town he said. That made me cry.
