You put your head underwater at a Mexican resort?
Not in the hot tub, I would never do that.

In the swimming pool I do it all the time.

I'll soon be staying in a room at a luxury hotel, with a private hot tub, and I'm just wondering if I'm over thinking how clean the hot tub water may be. The hotel is very high end so I know the water will be well maintained but, from what I've heard, even the best maintained hot tubs are still pretty gross because it's impractical to change / reheat the water between each guest. Wondering what Beyonder's opinions are here.

If you knew a hot tub in your high end hotel room was being properly maintained, would you use it or would you avoid it?
We do that all the time in Japan (winter time, outdoor hot spring/spa whatever) It is nice! Never tired "western" style hot tub, I assume it is similar ..

But I trust the Japanese Hotel house keeper more than western .. (say British or French)

The "hut tub" might not be a true hot tub...

In my last trip to Mexico, I booked a room with a secondary private outdoor terrace. The terrace had an advertised "hut tub"... Looked like a hot tub, had jets like a hot tub, but you had to fill it with water and it had a drain.

In our case, we filled it with a bit of water (for the jet intake), added some soap, and ran the jets... Used a towel to scrub the tub walls and stuff. It was super clean after. The friggin thing took over 2 hours to fill even with a massive volume of water coming from the tap, lol.

Everytime I've had a hot tub in the room its empty and you have to fill it yourself. Used water would be disgusting.

yeah there's one in our room in vegas when we go down, its not a hot tub but just a jetted tub, usually fits 1-2 people, you fill it on demand like a normal bathtub

I also went to a Mexico resort that was 5 Star and very well maintained. Had a jetted tub in the room in front of the window. Water was drained when we got there and had to be filled up every time we used it. I don't know of any hotels that have a hot tub in a room... might be referred as one but it will actually be a large jetted tub.

It's a full on hot tub outside the room in the open air. Not a jetted self-fill tub. So, the water is used. Exactly the same setup as any other private hot tub where the water is reused but maintained via chemicals.

    This is it:

Just looks like one. All the heaters and pumps are in the box on the other side.

Back on topic though. Ignore how fancy it all looks. The idea is still the same. The water is reused.

Jokes aside, you're letting the tub surroundings skew your perspective on this. Just because the surroundings are fancy looking, doesn't change the fact the water in that tub will be about one to two months old.

Draining, cleaning the tub, refilling and reheating that much water will take about 5 hours. If a guest checks out and a new one checks in on the same day, doing the aforementioned process is just not practical no matter how nice the hotel is. This is why the water will be chemically treated and reused over and over again between guests.

Honest question, do you not ever use public pools?

I'm not sure if this thread is a troll job or not...

A few years ago we rented a small condo in Kimberley and it had a hot tub on the patio. I think it was called Trickle Creek Condos or something.

The landlords told us it was drained, cleaned, and refilled before we started our week stay so that was nice to hear, but even if they didn't and just told us it was professionally maintained with chemicals that would have been fine too.

Part of the difference in my mind is that you know not too many people have fucked in the public hot tub vs the private hot tub.

You better have some potent Aids/manjuice to not be destroyed by even a fraction of the chemical content of a hot tub lol.

100%, rationally there is no reason to think that the hot tub would be any dirtier than the bathroom counter or the couch.

God, I never though about how many people have fucked on the room couch before. How do they clean that?! Not as simple as changing the seats. Damnit.
