We have different assessments. Between an oil price war and COVID-19, markets are beyond irrational. Daily swings of 4% are not considered "normal".

Well, I am taking a long term view to come up with that assessment. I consider all stock market transactions under 6 months holding to be "gambling" and not "investing" but I guess not all share that view. In any case, everyone stay safe out there.

I was looking at AD - Alaris Royalty - it has a dividend, which would offset the interest paid on my LOC. It's significantly less volatile than some energy stocks, too, but I'd guess it wouldn't be a short term trade.

What's with all the hindsight comments? Obviously everyone would be a billionaire if we had time machines, and not many people talk about their losses.

TD, AirCanada and VGRO all down a bit more today, potentially ripe for purchase.

I am going to do whatever that $25k student is going to do. Betting on beginner's luck. YOLO.

I better do well because I don't want A790 clapping my balls.

Don't chase dividends. Look at AD's price history. It is not a stable stock by any means, and that dividend is also not safe. Payout ratio for AD is north of 93% right now.

I'm keeping an eye on them personally. Probably going to drop some more and might be a good buy. When all the media fear mongering find something else to focus on (like the November US election), travel will probably pick up. Virus likely to peak in the spring-ish based on current estimates and new cases in China keep dropping. When (if) half the world stops traveling is exactly when I'd be looking to pick some more up.

Be greedy when others are fearful.

Just so I know what kind of advice I am taking in. How many of you guys are pros and what are your yearly returns like?

That question's about as helpful as the other threads over the years asking about net worth

Maybe someone should start another contest thread cause as far as I recall, our resident Subway single meat slave took the trophy for the crypto challenge

This is the type of thinking that cost a lot of people money Jan-Feb who "bought the dip" or thought it was "ripe for purchase"

Warren Buffett thought it was the right time to buy and he's currently out billions on airline stocks.

No one knows how bad earnings will be so it's honestly best to just wait and see.

Self proclaimed inverse guru. Meaning, whatever I do, do the opposite. That should net you a 35% or better return over 2 days

Copied from reddit, thought it was useful

To that end, I figure one metric to see how well our government is responding to this virus is the testing per 1 mill people. It appears we are leaders within Canada:

Alberta test per mill: 489 (2020-03-10)

BC test per mill: 400 (2020-03-10) (also noted to me was their concentrated population compared to AB)

Ontario test per mill: 234 (2020-03-10)

Quebec: I couldn't find the number of tests - not ideal for transparency if its not just my incompetence in not finding the info

    World wide:

Leaders: S Korea: 3,692 per Mill 2020-03-08 (1/3 size of AB with a population twice of Canada as noted on another local forum)

US: 5 per Mill 2020-03-08 (although, based on my understanding of the notes in the link below, its likely higher due to uncounted tests).
Big yikes for the US. Hopefully they finally ramp up their testing quickly

I just got TD back on Monday. About to flip a coin and choose between Air Canada or United Airlines here shortly. Grabbed more Pembina today as well.

don't follow much of Warren Buffett/Berkshire activity, did they buy a bunch of airline stocks earlier this year?

Yeah I believe they expressed they were unphased by covid19's affect on airlines late January and then during Feb they loaded up.

I can't remember all the airlines they bought, but I know Delta was one of them.

It hasn't cost anyone a penny if they haven't sold it. People aren't buying ETFs VGRO to flip, at least to my knowledge - it's more of a set and forget for 20 years, so whether you buy at $23 or $24, you probably aren't going to care by the time you cash out, you'll just be glad you bought in a dip. Nobody can pick the bottom - again if we could we'd all be mutli-millionaires.
