    Default License Plate Covers

I figured this would come eventually, starting to become a lot more common around town.

"Although these can be easy to spot with a trained eye, offenders frequently use a license plate cover to obscure these plates. The extra glare and coverage these covers create can often be enough to take a license plate of questionable authenticity, to a passable one."

"With the rise of these fraudulent license plates being associated to license plate covers, we would like to ask Calgarians to consider removing their covers. By doing so, you will be helping us to recognize and investigate the fraudulent ones. Thanks for your help, Calgary!"
Wat? So why don't they just pull over everyone with a plate cover and fine the legal plate owners, and arrest the illegal plate owners?

It feels like about 15% of the cars I am stuck behind in traffic have registration that expired >3 months ago. I think I could drive without a plate for about a month before getting bagged.
There really isn't many police officers around and perhaps the increased reliance on photo radar has further diminished traffic enforcement.

My friend had a motorized plate curtain thing. It could barely operate in a driveway without binding. I doubt it would ever work to hide from photo radar.

Cops should get a 10% bounty for all traffic infractions. Like direct to the individual cop. Enforcement would be ttttight.

If I were a cop, I would ticket the fuck out of those with plate covers. Even if you had a legit plate, it's practically impossible to tell if they have one of those tinted ones. Just get a bike rack if you want to obscure your plate legally.

Even those bike racks are illegal. Just loosely enforced.

I'm surprised that police don't enforce the covers more often.

Wasn’t that CPS’s trendy crackdown a couple years back. Right before they tried cracking down on exhaust noise.

    Onto the next one!

We need more police equipment enforcement crack downs.

If they're going to go after plate covers they might as well go after the ding dongs that tint / obscure their taillights.

I could live with all that, I just wish they went after people that ran around after dark with only DRLs on. So many people think that if they have their dash light up, it means their lights are on, and are driving without taillights. Drives me bonkers.

Shall we add improper headlights to that list too? I mean the list of infractions for non-oem and modifications that make driving dangerous is quite a lot..

I used to have a clear plate cover. Lone star gave them out. Made washing the car way easier and kept the plate pristine. Got ticketed a few times and fuck it, went back to basic plate frame, plate is dirty as fuck and faded inconsistently behind the plate frame now. CPS - 1, OCD - 0.

Nothing wrong with a nice light tint on the taillights to not blind the guy behind me at the lights.

I have a similar plate cover from the dealer. I haven't been pulled over yet.

I was also one of those people with an expired plate. It was the only car that was only good for a year, and they stopped sending out reminders. I was so used to Ontario doing it by the birth month of the registered owner instead of by the first letter of your last name.

This is one of my biggest driving pet peeves too. Sometimes I will quickly flash my high beams if I'm behind them and they figure it out, but most times drivers are completely oblivious to everything around them. They look like total tunnel vision drivers when you pull up next to them.
