You can buy very slim receivers, if bulk is an issue, and keep your existing setup which is likely better than a soundbar if it's separate speakers. Something like this:

If you also want to get rid of the speakers, then yeah a soundbar probably makes sense for you.
Ideal state is to remove the entertainment cabinet in front + center speaker + 4 loudspeakers and when I'm looking at my TV, I just see that and the soundbar.

It'll be some wiring fishing expedition for sure, but just curious what other people have. I like rage's idea of putting all the consoles in another room.

    Gotcha.

A sound bar is probably ideal for you then. You can do wireless rears but you still need to plug them in. If you buy a really good sound bar they have pretty convincing simulated surround which can work if you aren't too picky and you room isn't too weird acoustically.

If you want your equipment in another room, just buy the cheapest Logitech Harmony remote you can find that includes an RF transmitter and that will likely be fine if all you want to do is control volume, sources, etc.

These modern HDTVs have been great for those looking for RV style electronics without breaking the bank.

A lot of the low end $200 Insignia are 12 or 19 volt DC (converted from AC using a brick) More manufacturers may be going this route, and I hope high end manufacturers start doing it as well. Its a much easier and quicker hookup to a house that has gone battery/solar (California) All of the electronics inside the HDTV and screen elements must run DC, so you might as well feed it DC power.

The ultra minimalist setup would be a North American cell band (does not exist yet?) Blackview Max 1 and a painted wall, if you only run things like Netflix. Basically a 5-volt DC (USB) setup.

I'm really considering the Sonos Beam. I also checked my TV and man, it's so old it doesn't have ARC. Has optical though, which is nice.

I'll do that and once the setup is on, then I'll upgrade the TV as it's still works and is quite nice. I think once I upgrade my Apple TV though, I'll be singing a different tune

I used my beam with optical for a while and that worked great. Just can’t use the HDMI-CEC to use the same tv remote to adjust volume.

Which doesn’t mean anything if you use a universal remote anyway.

Thanks to my homeboy @eglove for the soundbar hookup.

Cleared out my setup as my parents want the big speakers anyway. Haven't mounted it yet to the wall because Im not sure how I want the devices like Apple TV, a PS4 etc to be placed. Center or hidden in a corner...

The worst part is now my tv looks so small and dinky

Once I have everything resolved, TV upgrade!

Is there a wall outlet that has a surge protector? Or is that irrelevant nowadays?

I installed a whole home surge protector in my old place after I lost a TV.

I was astounded how much fluctuation there was in the line at my condo and I really only found out about it when I got an APC H15 that boosts/drops voltage as needed.

Surge protector is a good idea.

    Also, go 80"

Ran into the same dilemma as you did @flipstah , wanted to clean things up and minimize. Went from bigger Yamaha 5.1 receiver/speaker setup, to Samsung soundbar with remote sub and rear speakers. Soundbar mounted with brackets attached to TV wall mount.

Nice! Did you add the ambient lighting too?

I was going to wall mount and fish wiring through but not really priority at the moment

Thank you! Yes I did add the lighting. Did a lot of reading on bias lighting for a while, and it helped quite a bit when I decided to do it, especially watching stuff when its darker.

While the price of some computer components may go up because of complexity and factory shutdowns, some HDTV's might drastically drop in price due to people only buying the essentials. Look for bargain basement prices on some items soon.
