Perez is out at the end of the season with racing point, hulk or vettel in with Aston???
Probably vettel like they are saying but hulk would be great too, he might even be a better choice imo.
I think most people are expecting Vettel but it's tough to even know how he'd be after such a terrible year with Ferrari. He either comes back with something to prove and drives incredibly or continues on his slump and struggles to get on with the team and make things work.

    Hulk would be awesome.

    EDIT: Vettel now confirmed.

Safety car looks good in red. I was hoping for a 2 stop race though. Shambles of a restart

It's always bad when the back of the field restarts before the front of the field.

That comes from eddie jordan though so I wouldn't put much weight behind it.

Pretty interesting race even with merc 1-2. Glad albon finally got a podium. Will be interesting to see what happened with strolls car though as he was having a good race until that off.

Guy on the post race show thinks brake failures causing heat which then blows out the tire.
Similar thing happened to Kyvat. Vettel in Monza and Ocon today had brake failures.
Says they're all the same supplier/brand.

EJ has a history of being the first to break the biggest news stories. McLaren Mercedes engine deal was the latest one. There's a lot of misses with him too tho, but usually he's reporting on talks behind the scenes even if it doesn't happen.

Wolff has already stated hes considering other options - the 8 years or so have taken their toll he says - affecting his family, etc.

He is staying with Merc. What role is up in the Air. I wonder whether it will be James Alliso who will then take over. He has young kids and he wants to stay close to UK. Then it will be James Vowles.

What a crazy fucking race. The last restart was boring though. Bottas couldn't capitalize on slip streaming Hamilton into turn one. Would have be interested to see if Hamilton could have passed Bottas with 12 laps to go or whatever it was.

Yeah it was a pretty entertaining watch. Last few laps were a snooze, and of course another two-Mercedes podium, but overall pretty wild.

So are they supposed to be racing or not? I would think that even on a restart that a driver is going to try to be as close as possible to the driver in front of them - yeah there's more risk but potentially more reward as well if you can make a pass by being up tight to the competitor ahead.

This appears to be partially the fault of the stewards although there appears to me no admission of accountability of their own actions or lack thereof. Hamilton sure as hell seems to be pointing a finger at the stewards fir the incident.

I'm sure at some point Mercedes would sell the team. Ineos probably did reach out and talk about it, but I doubt Mercedes would sell today. There's zero reason to right now, the team itself is profitable, the cost to Daimler on the engine side is around $35m, and Mercedes gets $5B worth of marketing value out of that investment today.

Safety car restarts are a skill, just like tire management. Some do it better than others. It's no surprise that the drivers who fucked it up are less experienced. Bottas maintained his speed and did nothing wrong. It's the midfield who left big gaps, accelerated to close them, thus making the back markers think that racing was back on.

Everyone was trying to get an advantage. If you leave a gap and run up to the car ahead by the start/finish line, timed right, will gain you a bunch of places. Indycar, they would never wave it green with that much gap. That doesn't exist in F1, hence the gong show.

FIA is looking into Hamilton's Breonna Taylor T shirt. Wonder what they are thinking.

That’s a slippery slope for the FIA.

Exactly . This is going to back fire on them. If there is anything they should have had a closed door conversation with him. Now this is out in the public regardless of which direction they go it is going to be bad.
