Our company has always supported remote working (laptop and VPN as the rule not exception) and depending on the team / role a lot of people work from home like 95% of the time anyways.

But yesterday our Country President let the entire company know that everyone is free to work from home until they feel comfortable. So that's kinda nice for the people that had managers who didn't let you work from home.

Nice thing is that we are fully on O365 cloud, so pretty much everything works without needing VPN access.

LOL you're going to be so bored during that training.
Haha I have been really driving moving to digitization and use of cloud / SharePoint for collaboration with my team this year. The teams that have been pushing back are the ones who are fucked. My workflow is actually quite seem less regardless of where I am.

We're 90% laptops. Thanks to Powershell and PDQ deploy every laptop will have VPN setup and Citrix by tomorrow.
But is your VPN gateway is fronted by big enough pipe to handle the load. Heard Suncor is struggle with that again.

remote access doesn't help much when you're working on big files though.. AutoCAD works, but when you're used to working at a certain speed it sucks to have to do it over the internet.

Even work station laptop aren't that great, i have a really nice one and i went back to a tower because they're just that much better..

If you are that dependent on a power workstation take it with you, and rely on VPN for the LAN.

Presumably anything super intensive you are using is saved locally on the machine anyway, I can’t keep economic databases on the network because of slowness even when I am in the office.

Loving this super low latency TELUS connection I have for RDP. My excel doesn’t care.

Our company is doing VPN resiliency tests and the VPN connection already sucks for me as it routes from Canada down through New York. On Wednesday the 18th there will be 4 major offices on the VPN line.. I'm not expecting a lot of work to be done.

So are you running your programs locally which are using the remote files? Indeed that would probably be slow/shitty experience.

a better way would be to run everything including the application on the remote server, and basically just have your remote machine show the video only. That's the kind of setup our subsurface people have to work remotely and it works pretty well from what i've seen.

I think our's works the same as your guys, i log into my drafting machine from another computer and then work from it, so everything that's using computing power is at the office, i'm just viewing it from home.

We just got it put in last weekend (totally unrelated to coronavirus haha, just doing upgrades) so i need to fuck with it and find the optimal way to use it still..

If i really had to i could just send towers home with my guys i guess..

This is basically my setup at Suncor, i can tunnel directly into my workstation. It works well in terms of processing power but god damn the hundred ms lag actually annoys the shit out of me. Totally tolerable and I'd much rather do it that way but it still throws me off when hitting a bunch of hot keys quickly.

Dipshit trump is attacking the CDC on twitter, claiming the border security helped slow the virus, attacking Biden for H1N1 outbreak.

Such a fucking idiot, literally can't put down his attacks for one day to try and do his job of helping America. 0 Leadership.

As this gets worse it's gonna stress all the backbone connections. Even microsoft is already having issues with Skype.

This shit is going to kill a lot of small businesses... How the fuck is a tire store supposed to operate from home? I still haven't figured it out.
    From the other thread.

I like mine too. I am just saying it is their job (and yours if you choose to accept it) to separate yourselves and avoid contact on your own. It isn’t the rest of the worlds job to hide themselves away to protect your weaker immune system relatives. If they can do that then that is great, but the world doesn’t owe them life. It is theirs (and/or yours) to protect or risk.
The world doesn't owe you a business either. It's your job to figure it out.

Is this a legit source, or is it a Killramos sausage down the hallway source?
