Looking like we will be working from home next week.
Not a big deal as I have the same cpu setup at home that I have in the office.
The customer interfacing will be interesting though... will likely need to head dt for some
    Meetings.

Our office is still open as usual and nobody really doing anything different. I found out today that while I'm not as susceptible as people with lung disease, I do have asthma and it can affect us.

Don't want to be "those" people but think I will be talking to my boss about working from home either full time or at reduced office days.

My 11yr old started coughing and mild fever today so we’re keeping her home next week. If she has to self isolate, not sure if the wife and I will have to do the same. Problem is my wife works for a dental office that does not pay for sick days, not sure what her options are, anyone know if EI can be claimed in this case?

Between EI changes and Alberta Labour Standards changes she should be good. https://www.alberta.ca/coronavirus-i...albertans.aspx (go down to the 'info for employers and employee tabs to see the labour standards changes).

Changes to the Employment Standards Code will allow employees to take 14 days of paid, job-protected leave if they are:

    required to self-isolate
sick or caring for a loved one with COVID-19

    To be eligible, employees:

will not be required to have a medical note
do not need to have worked for an employer for 90 days

This leave covers the self-isolation period recommended by Alberta’s chief medical officer. We recognize this could put pressure on employers, and are working towards a solution to address these challenges.

With respect to the schools. Teachers in both boards are aware of students that came back from overseas recently and are not self-quarantining. I can think of half a dozen examples off hand. If that's the case you have to think just how many people are not following those directions.

sounds good in theory, but no gaurantee you'll have a job when you go back after 14 days... i could see this pissing off a lot of employers

    Our workplace sent a text.
We can voluntary work from home going forward. But We wont be able to access via VPN as there not enough slots. Our roles are not as critical, we have to download our files before Monday. . Though this will change in the upcoming weeks.
Im still going in Monday and take it from there. But most people at my workplace work from home anyways. Its like a ghost town at work.

On another note, we switched to Teams last week. The only difference is that it allows more collarboation between groups and people. The notification interface for Skype was better.

    Edit: I spoke too soon.
I just got a call from my boo. Our work has closed our offices for the next few weeks. Gota work from home.. Guess im going to work in my PJ's tomorrow....

I'm sure they will keep our doors open until they pull last dead body out to throw it on the fire. Other than an email saying there's a disease going around there hasn't been anything mentioned about what to do if someone does get sick. I'm sure management will bail and we will sink with the ship.

Yes. I have seen cancer listed as a comorbidity.

I might as well build a new PC if we are going that far. Guess there will be a lineup at MemEx tomorrow. Everyone will be hoarding RAM.

We just implemented WFH for Canada and the US, some other countries have been WFH for awhile now. We also just went from banning work travel to specific countries (i.e. Italy, Iran, South Korea, etc.) to no international travel. Consulting firm so this should be interesting...

Work has told us that WFH is voluntarily. Nothing mandatory currently.

A friends company based out of Germany with a big presence in canada told all employees to go home. Anyone working out of the office or in another province had to return home. He thinks their manufacturing has stopped completely as the directive was for everyone to go home.

Wifes job is investigating Child abuse/child safety issues. Their office cant get hand sanitizer. Doesnt sound like they have the supplies needed to stay clean/safe while investigating things. Sounds like a big shit show as their union isnt doing much or saying anything to anyone.

    Total shit show all around.

My company went from you need to be at work Monday to work from home effective immediately. I’m lucky that I can, my 4 yr old will cut into productivity though.
I’m really worried that if my husband’s company shuts down, he’s out of a job. They’ve had a hard time but managed to keep going, this might just end the business.
