The real question is, does it matter if it's legal or not? Are you really in a position to go argue or pursue legal action with your employer at a time like this?
It was a question. Calm your tits. Weighing options if its better to be laid off vs using your vacation time if worst case they have to close temporarily.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

well, anyone who is laid off will be paid out that vacation time, and will have to wait to collect EI until that payout is used up, so the net result isn't very different.

It's probably Waaaaay better to use the vacation as an employee than to be laid off right away because you maintain benefits, and my kind of RRSP or pension contributions.

As my work is hella slow right now, they are forcing staff to use their vacation days to self-isolate and practice Social Distancing, and what they say is to prevent lay offs. So I'm off next week.

    Is this legal?
    Yes it is

Vacations should be scheduled by mutual agreement. If that does not occur, the employer is permitted to determine when your vacation will be taken, but must give you two weeks' notice.
I think employers with union shop tends to be harder to implement this. But if people are not driving and not piling up the miles, I expect less servicing will be needed over the next few months other than break fix. It's going to be interesting for dealerships the next few months.

My company plan for RingCentral allows max 23 people per meeting. Cannot imagine any more than that being efficient anyway.
