Default Field workers - Can someone point me to reserources for Subsistence pay?

I don't work in the field, and I haven't done payroll for anyone who does, ever. So I'm a little confused about all this. I have someone asking questions about subsidence rates and taxed on their payroll while they are doing field work. Can someone point me to resources on this?

If you can clarify what are minimums, or "norms" right now for oil and gas field workers, that might be helpful too.

I have a hard time billing for more than $60/day for my guys.

I don't let companies make money off sub these days so its either hotels at cost + $60/day/guy or a much small all in rate, like $125/man/day.

I don't really know the ins and outs on the tax side but my understanding is it is not taxable, insurable or subject to CPP deductions.

Yeah, subsistence should be non-taxable, but I'm having a hard time finding definitions and rules. I hate reading tax guidelines.
