Anyone have any recommendations on some floor mats for a home gym for under and around a squat rack? Will be covering a carpeted area if that makes any difference
Pick up some stall mats. Fitness depot was the cheapest i found. Let them off gas for ~2 weeks prior to install if you’re not a fan of the smell.
I put down a drop cloth to cover the carpet prior to install.

They were on sale (10%) a couple weeks ago. I have 2 of them, the rubber smell is strong at first though. They're in my garage, the smell has dissipated.

Thx for the tip. They also have these things which look interesting too.

Will try to see them in person then decide.

Didn't realize there wasn't one located in the city. High river or Strathmore is the closest to yyc.

RE: Rubber mats. I picked some of these up last week, by far the best price in town. 1/2 inch. They do not interlock but they are so heavy that I dont see how they can even move.

I also went with the Hyper Fitness full rack/combo on the last go around. Should be getting it this week. I'll update on how it is!

The stall mats are cheaper at fitness depot than Peavy Mart. Literally 1/2 price.

I’d avoid those interlocking tiles. You’ll want at least 3/4” rubber, especially since it’s going on carpet.
Even then depending what kind of lifting you’ll be doing I’d recommend building a lifting platform for a completely solid base.
I did that in my basement.

I’ll post a pic tomorrow for reference

i don't see myself lifting past 225 for squats and dead lift so may not need a full platform, but yeah i'd def be interested in seeing what you built. The rack is apparently 7 feet tall so might be tight with a platform depending on which room i end up picking in my basement to set this up.

Nice, i'm pissed i missed the last round... i got the notification email but it went to my junk mail, and by the time i saw it they were sold out. Would have been nice to be getting it this week. Let me know how it is, hoping in reality its as good as the reviews. I'm not expecting super high quality, but bang for the buck it seems like great value.

Do these Uncle Wiener ones have a smell and can they be cut to size fairly easily? Still leaning towards the 3/4" from FD, but I could see smell of these horse stall mats REALLY bothering me and the wife. I guess i have time so i can just let it dissipate outside or in the garage for at least a month.

Here is a crappy panoramic photo but you'll get the idea.

I didn't let these mats off gas prior to install, so the smell was definitely strong for ~2 weeks in that room. I closed the door and had an air purifier, fan and window open 24/7.
The smell is now completely gone (well just about, they are a rubber mat afterall...)

As for the lifting platform, its 8'x8' with my rack bolted down.
Used 4 4x8' pieces of plywood and 1 4x8' x 3/4" maple as the exposed wood.

I just installed them today and they do have that typical rubber smell. Hopefully air out in the next few weeks. Wonder if it would be good to clean them and dry them in the sun first

Those mats are great for a home gym. I didn't glue mine down so it's easy to lift them up and install carpet if need be.

Which ones are these in the picture? Pretty sweet setup by the way!

The 1/2” mats are virgin rubber, so almost no smell. The 3/4” mats are recycled and give off some odour.

I opted for the 1/2” for that reason, I cut and fit mine flush overtop carpet and it works great.

I'm looking for feedback from the people that went with Hyper Fitness racks. I'm looking between them and Bells of Steel. The build is about $40 difference, but it's all about the gauge of steel used on both. I believe Hyper is 11 gauge and bells of steel is 12?

I'd have a look at northern lights as well if you're in the market. They manufacture/build in Canada... Good quality, good fit and finish. I believe fitness depot caries them as well.

I got one of their half racks. Happy with the price point and quality.

They're made locally in Edmonton and they use 11 gauge steel.

I'll also give them a call to see if they have a complete package similar to Hyper and Bells of steel

It looks good! I would most likely go with the full cage, but it doesn't appear that they do packages. While I like how solid it is, I must say I do like the multiple hand grips of the others for chin ups.
