Saw this chick at the gas station today, full mask, pretty extreme looking one, the type a exterminator or painter might use, gloves, hat. she stood so far from the counter she could hardly reach the debit machine. What'd she buy? Cigarettes...like WTF, care that much what shit you breathe in? And yes, they were for herself, by the time I left I saw her sitting in her car smoking, sans mask of course.

Just got a laugh from that lol

BTW I am not advocating N95. I really don't care what kind of material you cover your mouth with, as long as you don't spit out droplets when you talk.

It's pretty amazing how some people can't read in between the lines and realize that the whole "masks aren't effective" was an attempt to stop hoarding and price gouging.

Never once did those Doctors, Nurses, Media outlets or whoever was claiming they weren't effective actually provide any data or figures to back up the claim.

And now we're here. We got data from Asian countries showing a way better curve with masks than countries not wearing masks. We have Trump using the DPA to force 3M to make more masks. We have people making their own masks and in some cases donating them to hospitals.

Something is better than nothing. And the whole "but but but but you can still get it in your eyes!!" argument is fucking weak. Let's all stop washing our hands cause you know we can still get it through our eyes.

Or assuming people are too stupid to learn how to use a mask properly.

US also allegedly paid a distributor double to divert masks destined for France to the US.

The proper steps to doff ppe including masks and gloves is like 15 steps and involves handwashing between every step. Pretty much not possible unless you doff in a location with a sink available for eg if you had a slop sink in a garage you could decontam there. For work we have to do it on scene so use wipes and hand sani as best we can but normally that is for asbestos or other hazards not biohazard, thanks china

well, I guess if my work connection to china sends us a few thousand, I'll start wearing them. Current protective precautions involve not going inside superstore anymore. Click-n-collect or co-op/safeway.

Czech and Slovakia mandatory. Germany is now recommending mask and ban exports of mask.

Once it becomes trendy to wear disposable masks, I will start wearing my full face mask.

Let me go out on a limb and say. Maybe all the ladies wearing Burkas were just slightly ahead of the times.

Fresh off the press this morning. "Respiratory virus shedding in exhaled breath and efficacy of face masks"
    https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0843-2

We identified seasonal human coronaviruses, influenza viruses and rhinoviruses in exhaled breath and coughs of children and adults with acute respiratory illness. Surgical face masks significantly reduced detection of influenza virus RNA in respiratory droplets and coronavirus RNA in aerosols, with a trend toward reduced detection of coronavirus RNA in respiratory droplets. Our results indicate that surgical face masks could prevent transmission of human coronaviruses and influenza viruses from symptomatic individuals.
Note that they state "surgical face mask" rather than "n95 face mask".

What's the point of wearing it at all if your primary concern is "what is trendy?" vs "what benefits you and others?" I think if more people who had them wore them, that would probably help them become more trendy.

Is there any good reason to not wear a mask right now if you have one, other then being worried about what other people think?

Honestly, broken down to it's most basic form, it is ME first pretty much everywhere. We all like to think we think big picture, but our basic animalistic instict will always be "me first" for the most part.
