Default USD Exchange Rate Forecast 2020

With our dollar dropping off lately, and all the economic uncertainty here and in the US what's the general consensus on short and medium term exchange?

EDIT - rewrote, not intending to time the market just looking at overall short/medium term consensus as it relates to CDN firms who are affected by the sudden impact of the dollar drop on manufacturing among other things.

Something something something timing the market. Also applies to FX which is even harder to predict.

Not so much looking to jump in and out of the market from a timing perspective, but there have to be some indicators that would suggest our dollar is either going to stay down or start climbing back up.

I just wonder about the general sense, I would imagine that economists have an opinion. It has a pretty direct impact on some agricultural manufacturing around here.

I'm curious how strong the USD is going to stay. It's going to take a while for us to get back to $0.75:$1

If OPEC still exists, we're tied to them unfortunately.

I think it's really hard to predict right now. The USD dropped because of printing money, the CAD dropped because oil tanked. The USD is typically seen as a safe haven, but when the fed starts this kind of quantatative easing with no end in sight, who knows where things are going.

^I think since everyone is in the shits, everyone will still using USD as the 'benchmark'.

There's going to be hyperinflation happening beyond Zimbabwe this year.

Completely wild prediction... or maybe not:

Canada, the US, and Mexico economies completely crumble and the only way to save all 3 countries is to finally unite as one.

Does that answer your question? Not really I guess... but it could mean a stronger USD, assuming that's what we keep as our currency.

This is what scares the shit out of me the most, the hyper inflation. As for the USD, if China or Russia achieve their endgame... USD will go by bye

Don't think anyone is going to use the Yuan as a benchmark after this.

As of right now we are marking our exchange @ day rate plus 2% hedge. All the contractors we have spoken with are basically doing the same.

The big boys still are looking at 1.35 with a rider to settle fx on invoice.

There's no right answer. Our US vendors are doing their best to cover us off with margin reduction and splitting the hedge. At this point, from a mnfg point of view, all of our major projects have got a 120 day hold + many are asking for cancellation terms. Even if we do start to recover around sept, by that time a lot of projects will be stale and likely retender.

The biggest thing we are doing now is buying forward when the day rate is kind.

So I guess it's good that I was forced to bill in USD last week?

Pardon? the USD has gone up... They are pumping trillions in to the market and it is still deflating. Will it last forever? No... Will there be hyper inflation? Eventually but how long will it take? The question is what will the next type of world currency look like. I'm more interested in what gold is going to do.

Just noticed that the price of silver plummeted in first chunk of March. That seems odd. Why?
Shouldn't it mildly track other precious metals?

Relative to the CAD it's up, but compared to some others it's not.
