    Default Contacting CRA by Phone

    Hey Guys,

Have any of you had any luck getting a hold of the CRA right now?

I have called 1-800-959-8281 33 times in the past 16 days. I've even tried calling the out of country/NWT number. The only one I haven't tried is the debt line.

Each time it will dial for 6-7 cycles then auto hangup.

    WTF is this?

I am locked out of my online acct. I can't get a hold of people to unlock it. Any strategies?

Amazingly, this is completely normal and somehow acceptable. You need to call at all different times of their biz day, repeatedly.
    It's brutal.

I must have hit the lottery then.

I called 8281 on Friday. Checked the wait time online... said 31 mins. Reason for calling was to get full access to my online account.

Called the number. Automated system answered. Did the automated thing to find the correct person to talk to. Automated system transferred me over. I expected to be on hold for 1/2 hour. Nope. Real live person answered immediately. Verified my identity. Emailed me the security code. I saw it come into my inbox. Entered the code on the CRA website. Done.

Total time spent on the phone - 6 mins. I called on Friday at 9:10am MDT. Maybe give that time a shot? I dunno. Pretty crazy contrast between your experience and mine tho. Nevertheless, that's a gov agency for yah.

They are also being inundated by people calling about EI claims and other things unrelated to the CRA, as well as trying to transition atleast their calgary workforce to working at home. Source: I know someone there.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

The agent named "Vicky" spent a lot of time asking me how I like the blast screens at grocery stores. Almost had me wondering if I had dialed superstore. Ultimately, I got my acct unlocked and all is well now!!
