    Those poor bastard beta testers born in Q1.

    I feel like Q3 is the sweet spot for this system actually working.

    If you have two jobs, one is stopped and the other isn't, are you eligible?

    This question applies to me as well. One job and self employed. Work will definitely dry up for me on the job part and I'll eventually be laid off. Work for self employed will continue but probably reduce by 25% soon and them ultimately I'd say 50% down but that definitely depends how far down the rabbit hole we go.

    I'm sure flipstah has read the ei pages like me, but I didn't come across anything relative to this situation or a double job situation.

    At this point if you’re unsure, I say just go for it and if you get audited or something later just deal with it haha

    No, you are not eligible. https://www.canada.ca/en/services/be...plication.html

    Can I have other income while receiving the Canada Emergency Response Benefit?
    You must have stopped working as a result of COVID-19 and be without employment income for at least 14 consecutive days within the initial four-week period. This includes income from paid leave, self-employment income or collection of any Employment Insurance benefits.
    For subsequent periods, you must expect to have no employment income.
    You can also apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit if you are eligible for Employment Insurance regular or sickness benefits.
    Provided it is allowed in your province or territory, you may also receive provincial or territorial support payments at the same time you receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.

    There's going to be so many bogus applicants to CERB trying to get free money somehow from the government that overwhelming the system is inevitable and likely hurt those that actually need it.

    The benefit will be available to workers

    Residing in Canada, who are at least 15 years old;
    Who have stopped working because of COVID-19 and have not voluntarily quit their job or are eligible for EI regular or sickness benefits;
    Who had income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application; and
    Who are or expect to be without employment or self-employment income for at least 14 consecutive days in the initial four-week period. For subsequent benefit periods, they expect to have no employment or self-employment income."

    How do you even prove the difference?

    Also:

    Workers who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents – including temporary foreign workers and international students – may be eligible to receive the Benefit if they meet the other eligibility requirements.
    Nice! Free trudeaubucks for everyone, don't even have to be a citizen of this country.

    Is it really free money when you have to claim it as income on the 2020 tax return? The Alberta Emergency Isolation Support payment of $1146 from the UCP might be free money thogh...

    For those laid off, apply for CERB first. After the 4 month period, and still aren't working, then apply for EI.

    "No. When you apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, you will receive $500 per week, regardless of what you may have been eligible to receive through Employment Insurance.

    However, you retain your eligibility to receive for Employment Insurance after you stop receiving the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, and the period that you received the CERB does not impact your EI entitlement"

    Yea this is just another form of unconventional monetary policy - helicopter money. The verification of this is pretty much nil.

    You will get taxed on this though, as per usual.

    It's free for the claimant but not for the other taxpayers. With that kind of cash, I could totally up my fried rice game with a top of the line induction and pressure Zoji!

    What would you call $2000/month taxed that came out of thin air called? Lots of people are going to try abusing the system and I hope the CRA crushes them. This is an aid package for people that are in serious financial need. But I have so little faith in people's morals in circumstances like this that the system, which won't be great to start with, will be promptly overwhelmed.

    I couldn't agree more. They are basically stealing from other Canadians taxpayers. Crush them like a fat hamster crushes an almond.

    I will take credit for this revelation entirely due to my vivid emotional depiction of fried rice. People respond better to emotions.

    side note: I bet Dz Nuts split this thread like a super moderator would. Good job.

    So, perhaps this is a reading fail on my part, but I was on EI before all this shit started. I have a few more weeks left before it runs out. Can I apply for this benefit after it runs out or am I screwed by being caught in a loophole of the rules?

    How do oil and gas people fit into any of this? Is it still the attitude we chose the industry go fuck your self? Or do we count as being effected(affected?) by the massive drop in demand for our products due to Covid-19?

    Like where do my contractors fall in all of this, should they be applying for CERB? My employees we laid off, EI OR CERB? What about me? I’m about to make zero dollars this month, pretty pumped for that haha
