    Default Sanitizing your vehicle interior

I wasn't sure where else to post this - please move if you feel the need.

Before Covid hit, I was always someone to wipe down the interior of my car, basically any high touch areas (steering wheel, shifter, etc). I was always using Armorall's auto disinfectant wipes, as they claimed to be auto safe. It would appear these are no longer in production, as I can't find them anywhere and even emailed them but have not received a response.

Is anyone else cleaning their interiors? If so, what are you using? My concern of course is having ammonia or other harsh chemicals wrecking the plastics and leather. Especially if they are the type that has to air dry for two or more minutes. I've even seen Caviwipes take wall paint off of hand railing before. I have a winter beater right now and have been using the least harsh sounding sanitizer wipes I can find (Greenworks compostable, which claim to be safe for acrylics), and so far no noticeable damage of any sort. I would appreciate any input.

Swap EPA product with Health Canada's list.
    https://www.canada.ca/en/health-cana...d-19/list.html

I have been hand santizer my hands before and after I drive to minimize the cross contamination. For door handles, I just go to town with lysol wipes. The rest of interior, regime stays the same other than all towels go directly to garbage after I'm done.

Unless someone sneeze in your car or you are still doing uber or something. It's not really a big deal. You are not suppose to share you car with anyone you don't live with at this point.

Thanks for the reply and for that video. Very informative.

I'm not too worried about myself bringing germs into my car. I've always been a very germ conscious person. For example, when you pump gas and then all that crap gets all over your steering wheel. I have always had hand sani in the car, so I use it in scenarios like that. I'm more concerned about others coming in the car (not during Covid times) and what cleaners are safe for plastics and leather. You haven't had any issues with Lysol?

The guy in the video definitely hesitated using the wipes on the leather Porsche (?) seats.

You could try contacting some detail shops and see what they are using for interior disinfectant. I know I've seen a few social media posts about them selling the disinfectants. And I'd imagine what they are using would be vehicle safe

I you have access to an ozone generator, it can sterilize everything in a space in 8 hrs easily. This includes human, so it needs to be ventilated before use.

Here's what Carzilla had to say:

    Yes, here you go:

    https://carzilla.ca/collections/all-...sanitizer-16oz
Leather will depend, most of it will be ok, just not the "uncoated" leather (suede type, ex, King Ranch). It's best to apply a conditioner/protectant afterwards.

This disinfectant works wonderfully. I dilute it 1:2 to reduce the chemical smell.

My concern is it has ammonium listed. I know ammonia can be used to break down acrylic paints, aka plastic. You haven't had any issues? Are you doing a direct spray application?, or into a cloth?

I always test it on an inconspicuous area first. So far it's been working well. Could also be due to heavily dilute it, 1 part chemical with 2 parts water. Also I spray on a MF towel so it doesn't sit on the surface.

Doesn't it need to sit on the surface so that it does kill anything there?

Aha! They just came out with this video. Looks like they are constantly wiping for 3-7 minutes to really kill corona. And that's undiluted. I suspect for regular germs though, a few minutes of just sitting there on the surface should be fine.

That is correct. That's why I dilute it and apply it by wiping it down multiple times using a towel.
