Totally agree. Schools are the biggest button the government has, and there are a lot of voices begging or screaming for them to push it. I hate to talk about suicide, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a statistically significant spike in the next coupe months.

If anyone out there is having problems, call the distress centre at 403-266-HELP or visit https://www.distresscentre.com/ where they have confidential free 24/7 online chat. If you feel trapped or in danger or know someone who is, please call.

Good advice. Also consider your employer's Employee Family Assistance Programs or whatever each Initech calls theirs.
Get all those "salaried benefits" that are allegedly worth so much working for you.

It's all fucked. I can't speak first hand but a few teacher friends were talking about covid and they agreed that the kids going through all these shutdowns and lockdowns aren't nearly as balanced as the kids pre-covid. Using words like weird, awkward, off...

I sure hope they shake it off when things eventually go back to normal, if that ever happens.

I have a family member who seems to have totally snapped. The fear in the media and from politicians is getting to her, she's scared to get groceries now. The disruption to the school schedule is fucking up her work, and she's now considering quitting her job before she gets fired, which she cannot afford to do, to handle it all.

I have a lot of thoughts about all that, but haven't yet been able to talk her through this. Very unfortunate, and it's weighing on me and the rest of her family as well.

I've turned a corner the past 6 months or so as much as this is like a bad dream or some bad 80's action movie plot.

Using this solitary time to play more guitar and have felt that conversations and texts etc have more meaning to me now. Checking in with friends and family, keeping them in good spirits etc. This is the time to tell people in your life how you really feel about them (in good ways at least )

Some friends have gone off the deep end with the whole god thing, whatever works for you I guess.

There is also 211 in Alberta. I just heard about this today. It's a way to find general help. Think of it as the step before you require the distress centre maybe?

Good Call. 211 can connect you to resources, but so can the Distress centre and a few other places. The first and most important step is starting that process, not worrying about which one to call.
Also, AHS can connect you with counselling and therapy through your family doctor. That's a bit of a pain in the ass but I can confirm that it works and involves no out of pocket money because I have done that previously. It got me through a rough patch personally.

I think those same words can be spoken of many or most adults right now too. I think we have ALL grown weary - but as adults, we try to hide our discomfort. Kids just do what they'll do.

Well, today is "blue monday" and while it's never nice to think of a time when so many people are struggling, I like to look on this as the day that things start to look up for many. I've already started noticing that extra daylight, and for myself that helps quite a bit.

So if you are having trouble today, you sure aren't alone, and hold in your mind and your heart the idea that even when there's dark days, they don't last forever, and things can improve for you.

    Sending bro hugs.

"Blue Monday" suddenly showed up on my Spotify daily mix this morning. Haven't heard it for ages, that can't be a coincidence.

UV and fresh air helps. Get out of house to the outdoor if you can.

Understandable. Post Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year is over. It is cold, and there are bills to pay which can be higher than other months due to holiday spending.

Feb 1st is always the big shift for me. It's amazing how fast the daylight returns once things wind up. We're almost there to the nicer days.

    Jan 1st: 8hrs of sunlight
    Jan 15th: 8.5hrs of sunlight
    Feb 1st: 9.25hrs of sunlight
    Feb 15th: 10hrs of sunlight
    Mar 1st: 11hrs of sunlight

Honestly bigger than the number of hours of sun in the day is this god awful oblique angle we get.

It can be sunny but dark AF because a small garden shed could block the sun.

I can say the extra light in the evening is a welcome thing but we just dealt with covid in our house and I am still fine so not sure what is going on there.

The biggest drag for me is the fact of how looking or finding good work right now is not easy. I am hoping that in the next bit that will change as that will bring the biggest and most welcome change for me.

I woke up this morning, looked out the window sadly, at the snow, and thought to myself:

"Only 9 more months until next winter"

I forgot about the term, and didn't even consider it until it was brought up on my Facebook last night, but man I did feel shitty yesterday.

In fact, I felt so crappy that I started doing some research and came upon a term I had never heard before: Anhedonia.

Look it up. I think this condition has been slowly creeping into people's lives since the pandemic started.

Personally, I slowly started feeling it since I got married over a decade ago.

Nothing like buying a motorcycle that serves a single purpose: being a year round garage ornament.
