Default “FAIR Alberta” Car insurance reform - Discuss

I’ve seen more than one commercial now, are these lunatics really campaigning for government regulated insurance?

Because ICBC, MPI, and SGI are so much better...

I just loved how all this played out.

    1. Stable insurance thanks to soft tissue cap
    2. Injury lawyers figure out how to get around soft tissue cap
    3. Premiums start getting out of hand because of 2
    4. Government caps insurance premiums because 3
    5. Insurers lose money because 4. Does things to make insurance hard to get. 1 year premiums up front, refuse high powered cars, some even pull out of AB completely.
    6. Government lifts premiums cap because 5
    7. Premiums skyrockets to make up for 2 and 4
    8. Everyone bitches about premiums and blames 6
    9. Government looks to cap injuries further to eliminate 2
    10. Fair Alberta doesn’t want 9. Probably funded by injury lawyers who are responsible for 2

The core problem is 2 and absolutely needs to be fixed. This same shit (mostly) was played out in BC until 9 happened. Soft tissue cap was designed to fix this identical problem 20 years ago. Social media is full of the left bitching about Jason Kenney and 6 and promoting 10 with zero context. Good times.

@Masked Bandit can chime in if I missed any details haha.

Mother Fucker rage2, if you ever get sick of doing whatever it is you do let me know so I can make you an offer. You've hit the nail right on the head. Do you have family in the business or something?

And ya to #10, these guys are backed by injury lawyers who don't want to get cut out. If we go to a No Fault system it essentially eliminates the personal injury industry in the province.

FWIW I'm no fan of No Fault (Your Fault) insurance arrangements.

Haha nobody in the business. I just knew someone that got a mid 6 fig payout for an innocent fender bender through an injury lawyer, that led me down the rabbit hole a year or 2 ago? It was all over the news in BC with ICBC insurance premiums going crazy and what they did to fix it. Plus I read your posts. I do have a lawyer buddy that has injury lawyer friends who explained the whole loophole to me tho.

To be fair I’ve been hoping to hit the rear end jackpot.

Remember, it's all about TMJ / concussion / PTSD. Nobody has whiplash anymore.

Their commercials state that Alberta already has a “no fault insurance system”
