I got a voucher from Allstate because on a corporate level, they are indirectly owned by Honda. The voucher is for 70% off a new Honda but it's not redeemable until January. I hope the Honda dealerships survive that long given the Corona Virus pandemic.

I just got some, so I'll assume that was from you.
    Thanks so much!
I think someone else gave me some a little earlier, as well.

Should home insurance go up since people are home more, cooking more and therefore more potential fires?

I wouldn’t expect cooking fire claims to be all that common. If anything, being home all the time will help catch water leaks and electrical fires earlier.

We'll see a huge rate hike next year when driving to work will be mad max style.

I'd expect personal and life insurance rates to get a significant hike, along with benefits packages getting reduced with employee pay portions increasing.

What minimal good will is doled out now, will be recouped in short order and in magnitudes later.

The only company I know of FOR NOW that's handing our "rebates" is Allstate which also operates under the name Pembridge. In my analysis this dumb as fuck because for those folks who are now WFH all you need to do is adjust your policy from commuting to pleasure use only and there will be savings (the amounts vary wildly by policy). Handing out a blanket rebate now gives money to those people whose risk profile hasn't changed (the nurse that still drives to work for example). I should have more details on the Allstate / Pembridge thing next week as we're supposed to get an update sometime on Monday. FWIW I don't have a lot of faith that it will be a well thought out program because I actually heard about it online before we were officially notified and FFS I've only been selling their shit for little over 20 years.

    From All State:

Announcing Allstate’s “Stay at Home Payment”

    Dear Valued Customer,

We remain committed to putting our customers first and fulfilling our promise to support you with strength, experience and care in these challenging times. Our team understands the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and we’re here to help.

We are offering a “Stay at Home Payment” to customers who have an active automobile policy with us as of April 8, 2020. The payment is to help relieve the restrictions, changing business practices, and financial burden imposed on our customers. We’ve seen less driving and this is expected to continue throughout April and into May. We recognize that with fewer people driving, there are fewer collisions on our roads. As a result, we are giving money back to our customers. We are working to get these payments issued as quickly as possible and all qualifying customers can expect to receive a cheque in the mail in May. There is no need to call in to receive the payment. For more information about the “Stay at Home Payment,” please visit our website FAQ. https://www.allstate.ca/webpages/cus...ion042020.aspx

I thought Desjardins bought Allstate in our region. Am I mixing that up? Who did they buy?
