Grass edge trimmer

I know some of you guys on here are yard geeks, so what battery power edge trimmer are you running. It's finally time for me to replace mine old B&D.

I have a Makita better powered one. Not the greatest since its the cheapest one they make. Good enough for what I need

OK I didn't mean edger....how about a string trimmer. Is that the proper term?

Quite happy with my greenworks 80V that I bought last year (came in a bundle with the lawnmower). I use it for both trimming grass along the fence and also edging along sidewalk and driveway

I’ve been eying the Ego string trimmers for a while now but every time they go on sale I miss it. Too poor to pay full price.

I have a 18V black and decker one that works just fine. Nothing remarkable about it. Has worked fine for the 7 years I have had it.

I feel like this isn’t something to overthink. Mine was a little wheel on on side that make trimming along pathways easier? And extends and retracts. Both are nice features.

I wasn't trying to be unhelpful, there is a machine that I would call a edger, that I think is appropriate for landscaping professionals, but us plebes can use a strong trimmer, weed eater, weed whacker, whipper snipper etc. Yeah, get that.

Ive had the same one (plus mower, leaf blower, and snowblower) for a few years now. Have no quality complaints about any of them.

I had a Worx 20V one but found it didn't have enough power/battery life for me, so I returned it and got a Hitachi gas powered one *grunt*

Trimmers usually only cut back the long grass. Get an actual edging tool and you'll see how far over grass grows. I've seen 1-2" cut back easily on some lawns.

Also for general yard work buy whatever is the cheapest and give'er. I bought a $50 string trimmer and its been perfectly fine.

a good string trimmer can easily clean up 2" of overgrown dirt/grass from concrete/driveways which should be good enough for most home owners. If you have a landscaping company or maybe a massive corner lot, a dedicated edger makes more sense.

Hitachi gas trimmer over here too. Aside from the fact that it is about as loud as a small chainsaw, I really like it. Right amount of power, starts easily every time... don't have to worry about charging batteries. It's perfect.

Edit: for all of you that think you need an edging tool.. or even a weed whacker to do this, prepare to have your mind blown

There was definitely some power tools involved with that other than just shovels lol.

They didn't just use a shovel on that, they used an edging spade first to cut the sod.

I used to have a BD bladed edging tool but with the new house, I had no more need of it - just a spade is enough to cut the short part for me.

I've got the entry level Stihl gas powered trimmer. It's going strong after 10 years. It's much better balanced than my old corded electric trimmer.
