Polyethylene glycol.

That was my guess, but I've mainly only heard of Propylene Glycol being a somewhat common food ingredient. MEG, DEG and TEG I've always associated with antifreeze and the hydrocarbon/chemical industries so PEG doesn't "seem" like it should be in food.
It sounds unnecessary, but let's face it - Dr. Pepper is pretty unnecessary overall.
