We had sod installed last year so haven't had to deal with the lawn all that much yet. What do you guys recommend for a spring fertilizer? Would a 30-0-3 work fine?

Paging 89coupe!
I just use whatever Home Depot has, I use the regular stuff year round (spring, summer or fall).
89coupes recipe for success was a shit load of nitrogen rich fertilizer after each mow, excessive but it worked. I used the same product he did just twice last year and had deepest green lawn in my neighborhood.
Here is what is used

That said, my lawn stayed green all winter lol. One of the perks of that BC life I guess.
Since it was new sod last year, start with getting an aeration booked. But yeah something along those lines - I liked the Scott's turf builders myself.
I wouldn't aerate this year until the sod is well established. Next year. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Thanks for the input everyone.
Will probably grab one of these:

I used the fall lawn food at the end of the season last year:

+1 for the Turfbuilder MAX. Have yet to come across something that works better for greening up.
Would it be good to do an application with the regular version now and then mid May onward with the Max? Not too early?
A full year in it should be well routed. Because of how thick the thatch is by making sod quick - getting that air down actually really helps. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We used to do full aerations in the fall for sod laid in the spring. A half decent season was all that was needed, as long as the roll edges are hard to find - good to go.
is it too early to fertilize?
If your ground is fully thawed, go for it. My yard still has ice.

That's what you get for living in the north. You probably still have white walkers too. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Cleaned up the lawn and used the turf builder max today. Will report back. My lawn is shit so I'm interested in the results.
