Selling Unused car - Need Insurance for Buyer Test Drives?

As per the title, I'm selling a car I no longer use and would prefer to cancel the insurance so I can stop paying for it.

However, do I need to keep my insurance active so that any prospective buyer's test drive is covered or would their insurance cover themselves?

Short answer is yes, you still need liability.

Relying on prospect buyer having valid and proper coverage is all kind of sketch.

If the car wil be on public roadways for even one second, the owners needs PLPD (liability) coverage on that car. Unless it's leaving your place on a flatbed and no test drives are allowed.
Insurance is easy to get, and cheap for a few weeks, why not get it?

Also what is it, I'm always looking for a car or two to flip.

Also if the car is remotely nice/valuable, just get full coverage. Full coverage for the few weeks it is gonna take you to sell it is going to likely be very inexpensive (few hundred bucks at the absolute most). I always keep full coverage when I'm selling a car, the last thing you want is some schmuck driving it into a ditch and shrugging his shoulders and walking away, leaving you with a worthless heap of wrecked car.

Yes.

In the end it's still your car and you're still responsible for it.

That's settled for the insurance aspect. What about license plate and registration? Does the car need to be actively registered with a valid plate too?
