The optimal angle of a solar panel in Canada is quite steep, 51 degrees latitude means 51 degrees solar angle. The big issue with snow is that people want these on their 3 degree off horizontal roof without access.
Now you can also go all the way to maximize winter sun, which is 16 degrees off vertical too. Snow is unlikely to accumulate for very long at that angle.
In many ways, if you have no trees or poles in the way, the way to do it is to hang it like a shingle, or ground mount. If you ask me, 45 degree angle is really nice, 22.5 degrees off vertical if you want more energy in winter.
If this Spaniard kept his panels, hes probably laughing right now.
TLDR is that solar is still only for the wealthy or, those not concerned with ROI (which could be the wealthy or the ignorant I suppose)?
I don't think so. With the greener homes grant you could get $5k back on a $15-$20k system and your ROI should be sub 10 years. Also I think as solar becomes more and more common, you'll see an uplift on home value as well (potentially)
Interest free 10 year loan from government, paying off solar system, or eternal payments to ATCO and Enmax....
Also, do you think our power price is going to go down? If you do I have a pen to sell you...
Note - I am not mr. pro solar but with an interest free loan and solar panels slowly but surely improving I think the scale is starting to become balanced. my 2 cents

Yes. This is good. BUT the grant comes way after its installed, the installers want 50% down, and 50% at install and your financing comes after its installed (save for a small portion up front but only 15%). So you need to hold a $20k bag for the time it takes to book, get installed, and the work is done. 3-4 months according to whom i've talked too. I mean, maybe beyond can HELOC it but for me, i dont have $20k i can lose for a quarter.
