My awd Mazda CX-7 is the best winter vehicle I’ve driven, just powers through this crap no issues even with all seasons

I’m sure you could find one in the 5k range

3 pages in and not one Trackhawk recommendation? It seems Beyond just isn’t the same anymore, time to find my first ever post.

Conclusively wins internet by a sizeable margin.

I’ve always been under the impression the CX7 had major CVT issues??

No CVT, has an auto with manual mode and proper manual shifting, up for down / down for up

Maybe the base model does with FWD and the 2.5l but can’t comment on that one

You get the FAST (VQ powered) + reliable, but I don't know about <$5,000, last I checked, they were $8,000 range for one that is 250+km....AND it also can't look any more like a vagina if it tried lol....

For your budget, I'd look hard at the Infiniti FX35/45...would actually tick all your boxes PLUS fast (for what it is)...

Laughing at people suggesting an old Ford Escape lol he said reliable AND fun.

Nothing is more reliable than a vehicle that's half as expensive as your budget.

Was going to suggest a Pontiac Vibe AWD, but since the Matrix was shut down to being too feminine, guess that's out as well. My wife drives one and I have been driving it recently with all this snow (don't have winters for my Forester yet), sure feel manly passing all these other cars on the road that are stuck everywhere. This thing is a tank, love it. Not exactly fun, unless you find it fun blowing through snow without getting stuck.

That’s a little high, have you seen how bad the interior is?

On topic, I’d buy a RAV4, I wouldn’t recommend anything but Honda or Toyota if you’re looking for something reliable and cheap to fix.

Apparently EX are tiny (trunk and backseat). If they do it for you, you’re better off looking for a g35x or g37x, as they actually have more trunk space IIRC. Avoid 05/06 because they had oil consumption issues. 07 would be ideal but might be high miles for your budget. Decently reliable, horrible mileage. Way way nicer than pre-07.

I love my Highlander. 2008 model. 300K on her but engine still rocking solid. If you can find one in 5K for 2nd gen, do ittttt but 5K budget most likely only first gen 2003-07 models.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

They're mostly all bulletproof VQ engines that make decent power, the auto trannies are gonna be pretty bulletproof too. All these Infinitis use the 5 and 6 speed traditional autos...you won't have to deal with the CVT unless you start looking at Muranos and Rogues. If you like the EX35/37, I'd say go for it...Nissan's AWD systems are also pretty damn good. You get more bang for your buck too because Infinitis depreciate a lot. But like I said, in the 5k range, you are not going to find a decent EX35 though.....my vote still goes for the FX35/45. These are all just SUV/CUV variants of the G35...so you are going to get decent handling as well. Only downside I can think of, as someone mentioned, is the bad gas mileage, but that's expected for close to 300hp...can't really compare that to a Honda CRV lol if I owned a CRV, I would literally NEVER drive it unless I had to lol

    2005-2006 Infiniti G35x (bone stock)

pros - cheaper than FX/EX and 07-08 g37s, nimble, exhaust sound, DIY friendly, resale value

cons - TPMS, gas mileage around 13L/100km (to and from Chestermere)
