Ya im thinking about it. I love the way the audis look, but there are quite a few different engine configurations and im worried about reliability.

Found a pretty sick a4 avant 2.0 but ya, super unsure.

They’re awesome, but if timing chain tensioners go it’ll cost an arm and a leg, and that engine is notoriously bad for oil consumption. I wouldn’t say stay away necessarily, but wouldn’t buy one without a pre purchase inspection where they can test compression and do a bore scope.

People shit on me for suggesting an escape, and now you are considering a high mileage Audi?

    I will show myself out.

Not high mileage, no. My post says 5k, but my budget is likely higher. I have to be realistic with reliability and the cost.

They're mostly all bulletproof VQ engines that make decent power, the auto trannies are gonna be pretty bulletproof too. All these Infinitis use the 5 and 6 speed traditional autos...you won't have to deal with the CVT unless you start looking at Muranos and Rogues. If you like the EX35/37, I'd say go for it...Nissan's AWD systems are also pretty damn good. You get more bang for your buck too because Infinitis depreciate a lot. But like I said, in the 5k range, you are not going to find a decent EX35 though.....my vote still goes for the FX35/45. These are all just SUV/CUV variants of the G35...so you are going to get decent handling as well. Only downside I can think of, as someone mentioned, is the bad gas mileage, but that's expected for close to 300hp...can't really compare that to a Honda CRV lol if I owned a CRV, I would literally NEVER drive it unless I had to lol
Mostly this on Nissan 3.5L VQ. So many Nissan haters for zero good reasons. Although isn't the FX45 not the vq35?
I'd also consider a Mazda Speed 6. I always wished the Speed 6 had a higher output 3L because I've found that (Ford) thing to be extremely reliable and a great mix overall.

I can tell you which one is more reliable. And it's not the Ford.

So did OP buy a CR-V yet, or is this thread just a continuous clusterfuck?

Only shitty thing about the G35/37x is they require premium fuel to go along with the shit fuel economy

Fuck. That's an extremely good point! I wouldn't feel stupid putting that premium in a Z, but I would putting it in something else...
Their fuel economy isn't that bad though. I've averaged as low as 8.5L/100km on all highway. Winter + city can be 14, but... Does anyone give a shot about fuel economy in brutal city winter driving?

I had a supercharged 03 G35 coupe back in the day and loved it.

I’ve wanted another since... almost bought a G37 2 years ago but couldn’t agree on a price...
Love them, but man... premium fuel in a daily driver seems like such a waste of money. #notacarforum

Now that the big refineries are somehow getting people to pay +$0.20/L for 91, it's painful.
Others like Costco or Cdn Tire sell premium WAY cheaper, it lessens the sting

Recommended, but not required I don't think anyone driving a 15 year old G35 puts premium in it

I always put premium no matter how old the car is if it requires it.

I dont have the knowledge to swap the motor when it blows up lol unless you want to be at my beck and call when I get one @Sentry

If you're referencing the Subaru, the non-turbo ones are super easy to engine swap. I bought a $500 Impreza wagon with a blown engine, and swapped it out in less than 8 hours in my garage, with never having done one before. I think another Beyonder is still driving it a decade later.

Unless you drive 50k km/year, the incremental cost for running premium fuel is negligible. People place way to much importance on that criteria when car shopping.

    08 X3 3.0si
    ~185k
Accident in 2010 (Since the vehicle is white, there was no rust/bubbles/peeling and the paint looks/feels original I figured they did a good job)
Has most upgrades (electric drivers/pass seats, heated steering, HID's)
I think the only upgrades missing are backup cam/Navi

But there's almost no value in that extra few hundred dollars per year when another vehicle can do all the same stuff without that cost.
@16,000km/year, a person with a 10L/100km vehicle is setting fire to about $320.
I feel many would be better off spending that on lottery tickets, but I'm definitely wrong.
