The shape of the RS5 grill is at least good rather than shoehorning a large grill into kidney shapes.

Agreed. Looking at the renderings again, I think the most offensive design element is the point under the hood badge that emphasizes and defines the sides of each kidney... Even with the middle bar less obvious, that point looks awkward.

I'm not entirely opposed to the new large grill design language for BMW (I actually like the 7 & X7 - sue me), but something about the 4 misses the mark. I guess my point about referencing the Audis is that a large grill doesn't necessarily mean ugly, though the design of the last gen RS5 was far more coherent than the current car's zig-zaggy look.

I also own one of these so I have no solid ground to stand on to criticize large grills lmao

Bangle Butt doesn't look so bad now, which honestly hasn't aged poorly.
We all hate on the bangle butt but eventually even Camry copied it

There is a huge outcry about this new grill but BMW ain't backing down.

Lol What are they going to do? Redesign a car that’s been in the pipeline for 4 years?

Changing the grill at this point probably delays the car by 2 full model years.

What they should have done is realize that pig nose is fucking hideous. Its ugly enough that I'm sure it will effect sales.

And they didn't even fix the hood line that they botched from the E9X model.

All they had to do was keep the proportions more like the 8 series. Make a big fuckin grill down below as well if you want, just don't do it this way. The Alfa, Lexus, Audi... idk basically everyone else that has massive grills has found a more aesthetically pleasing way to do it.

...I got an idea, and it's revolutionary! Lets make the kidney grilles portrait this year instead of landscape!

How about it spins like a propeller and got back to the roots of the brand? And/or let people choose landscape or portrait mode?

Maybe they are going after the renewables crowd. The thing looks like it could build a dam.

It’s really too bad, I was kindof looking forward to getting back into a BMW.

M4 will still be a good looking car somehow I bet. They have done a good job with the M3/M4 since basically forever, and this ridiculous grill will pair better with ridiculous bumpers/wheel arches/etc.

The rest of the car looks so good, too bad there's no way I'm driving that grille around.
