Note that Calgary Co-Op is currently sprinting down this auger path by switching grocery providers without fully thinking it through which somehow fucked up their ability to rebate on fuel.
Now it's mid September and they haven't announced any fuel rebates when it was an incredible $0.08/L last year. I've completely stopped buying fuel there because I'm concerned the rebate will be zero when their competitors like Canadian Tire, Superstore and Costco all offer something near 5¢/L. I don't think too many others have yet, but, they will when their rebate cheques are a fraction of what they're used to getting and that will start hurting their business.
Consider I have only used 1/3 the fuel compared to previous years, I don't expect a fat cheque anyway.

I did a loop around the Beacon shopping plaza and damn that place is looking pretty grim too, tons of vacant spaces. The big liquor stores gone and that mongolie place is gone too. With no real end in sight im thinking that 50-60% figure for restaurants closing will be be more like 60-70% in the coming months. I called one place to see if they could accommodate 10 for a bday and they said no because max per table is 6 and they also dont take resos anymore because theyre only operating at 46% capacity

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I was driving along macleod tr last night (southern portion) and I thought the same thing, but I was suprised alot of those places along there could stay open in a regular retail environment.

Still, you could have earned $400 in Canadian Tire money for that, compared to ____?????_____ with Co-Op.

I think the real test will be when they can't keep patios open any longer....that has probably been the saving grace keeping a lot of places afloat.

Go for a walk down 17th, patios are PACKED

Funny how people have no idea what’s going on outside of their social bubbles.

Twice in July when going thru stuff with vendor.

I have heard other cities wants to keep propane heaters out to extend the patio season by a month or 2. I don't think Calgary is one of them.

It's gonna be rough tbh. The subsidies helped a lot, 30% sales drop, 75% of wages covered. I know some businesses were allegedly abusing the system but it is what it is.

    Time will tell.

Calgary is for sure. Nenshi put this out a week or two ago to keep the season going as long as possible. Anywhere that is able to mostly inclose from the wind/ weather and add decent heat should have a fighting chance. Everyone else.......hope they step up their take out menu game.
