    Brooks Brothers Down...

If the bankers aren’t making tendies in their suits no way they have any spare for Patagonia Vests.

    Short Patagonia.
Nor surprising since a lot of cheaper RTW places came out like SuitSupply or Indochino here in Canada.

They’ve been grooming themselves for a buyout for a long time but no one wants em.

Not really. If you're a steak house, quit buying $50 steaks and get some burgers going or something. Plenty of ways to be creative. Modern Steak House didn't seem to have a problem other than complaining about DD fees rather than hiring their own drivers for a fraction of the cost.

Shokunin is another restaurant that couldn't keep up with online orders, and same with Roy's Kitchen (formerly Anju). Being high-end has very little to do with it - skilled chefs/owners can adapt as many restaurants have shown.

All food is best enjoyed fresh from the kitchen, I think people understand that when they order in or get takeout it won't be exactly the same. Any dish that is absolutely imperative to be enjoyed immediately isn't typically on door dash menus, and the restaurant would be foolish to keep making it with no sit-down customers.

It's hard to feel bad for restaurants going under if they didn't even try to keep things going or adjust their business model to match market conditions.
Overhead is the killer. These big restaurants can't downsize overnight.

Exactly. Most business are balls deep for at least a few years given the initial investments (include lots of renovation costs) and lease terms. Most small businesses, especially restos, did not expect this kind of business disruption. For physical businesses it is not flexible at all. Overhead, especially rent, does not change by much. The expense ratio is only offset by greater revenue and biz volume.

You know what places survive? Those "white trash" type restaurants with "non existent service" where you vow to "never go back"

    This.

Don't you love it when someone who knows little about the industry starts yapping their mouth with their uninformed opinions? Crazy how someone can do this repeatedly and then play the victim wondering why they get picked on in various threads by multiple people.

Honestly idgaf about “being picked on” by you big mean Internet bullies

Never said any of it was easy, hell im pretty fucking sure I didn’t even bring up the topic. But 1+1 is pretty fucking simple to observe. You pivot and do what you can to survive. Some have, some haven’t. This whole situation sucks for every single small business, which isn’t industry specific.

Welcome to beyond, everyone has an opinion. I’ve lived enough lives that I really couldn’t care less what any of you think you know about me. I’ve also been around long enough that about 80% of the people on here know me personally.

The miracle business model of BOSTON PIZZA.
Reheated, frozen food, shitty warm beer and undercooked pizza somewhere between 10%-40% more money than anywhere else.

I was actually going to buy something there last month, drove all the way downtown since the Seton store is still closed but turned right around when I saw the lineup

Atmosphere with a sale is better for the most part now.

White Spot on barlow won’t be reopening. But they are opening a Triple O’s down in Deep South Calgary. So it kind of balances out I guess.

I never knew they existed in Calgary until I saw this one. I drive by it daily and it is definitely open now and according to their website the only one in Calgary.
