Ever have to return anything to Valhalla? They have some nice stuff, particularly Big Agnes tents!
Yeah they didn't have any issues taking back some shoes I was having trouble with them de laminating. It's no MEC return policy though which often border lined on stupid.

The one thing I ever tried to return to MEC was refused - it was a raincoat that started separating (the inside coating was shedding like snake skin). It was a MEC branded jacket too. They told me I didn't wash it often enough so too bad Ended up buying a new one from Atmosphere across the street haha.

Nobody going on beach vacations, nobody buying swimsuits. It's too bad because the wife really liked there stuff and that's where she bought most of the stuff for the family every winter when we go away. So far Covid has cancelled three vacations for us.

I'm amazed that it was around for 45 years and only selling bathing suits (I think) in a winter country like Canada

When those bathing suits cost ~$60-150, they probably didn't need to sell a ton of them to stay afloat haha.

So much this. Only time we ever went in there was before beach vacays. Sad cuz it was a Calgary based company

I’m sure a new version of this store will come in and replace if/when travel gets back to normal

I dont see the point of buying bathing suit locally when going to an exotic beach vacation. Most places you plan on wearing a bikini or bathing suit is likely going to sell them too. Pricing wont be cheaper at Swimco, so why not just buy at the vacation destination and consider it a souvenir?

The more retailers folding, the bigger Amazon will get.

When I go on a beach vacation the first thing I like to do is go shopping. Save the beach and pool for day 2 or 3, what's the rush?

    Unfortunate to see.
But I’ve never been able to justify $80+ on a bathing suit.

I usually grab one at winners before a vacation for $30

I'd rather not fly to Hawaii then have to go shopping to find a swim set before I can hit the beach.. Don't get me wrong, to I'll shop while there for me stuff, but I'd definitely still bring Beach attire for the first day or two.

I assume people in Calgary have more winter coats and boots than swim trunks/bikinis.

I despise shopping. When I go on vacation, I don’t particularly like to do activities I don’t enjoy.

Not like I buy new trunks every time either. Probably every 3 years or so.

Aren’t we supposed to support local anyways? or is that not cool any more?

That is debatable. To me, this is the expected outcome. Retailers over charge for have expensive overhead, ie rent. While amazon spends money on improving customer experience and to the point it is more convenient than retail.

In terms of distribution of wealth, this is definitely a bad thing. Bezos will take all the money make bill gates look poor lol.
