Default If there was a provincial election held today...

It seems like the UCP can't stop stepping on their own dicks lately so I'm wondering, if there were an election today would they still win the Beyond popular vote? Bonus points if you state who you've voted for in the past and why you may or may not switch teams.

I've voted 100% conservative in every provincial and federal election I've been eligible for over the past almost 30 years, but right now if I'm standing at a polling station I don't know that I can put an X beside the UCP. I don't like anyone else at the moment either but I'm curious as to your thoughts.

I can’t see any reason to vote for anyone other than the UCP

Other than AimCo and Kenney pissing off China and Shandro is showing up a doctor's door, what else have they done that isn't part of what they are saying they are going to do?

If anything Kenney has stopped the rhetoric and been quite cooperative during pandemic which made him raised a couple points in my books.

I don't really like Shandro and Nixon in charge but other than that they are fine.

UCP needs to be kicked out so that someone else can lead the party. Kenney isn't who I want leading this province and strongly disagree with many of the things he is pushing. I'd vote against the UCP this time in hopes it sparks some kind of a change in leadership.

My "perfect" party is probably pretty far from current UCP and Kenny is a dirt bag, but I can't see anyone else earning my vote.

This discussion should really be do you vote for the party that most closely matches your beliefs, or do you vote strategically / defensively?

Most people I know vote strategically.

I have voted Conservative of one kind or another most of my life, but not every single time. I do legit consider other options.

I probably wouldn't vote UCP again, but I am not sure who else I would vote for. I hope a better option comes up by election time but I won't hold my breath.

Tricky question as i find beyond the UCP and NDP representation is very spotty in ridings preventing some party, for example the Alberta Party to never actually get a chance to become a government.

Basically this. Shandro must go, but the rest is what we should've expected. I would begrudgingly vote UCP if today.
For the record, I believe I voted Alberta Party in last election, NDP the election before that and Conservative the earlier few.

I'll probably always vote independent if it's a possibility. With all the parties, you have to vote for whatever will fuck you over the least, rather than what you want. I want a guy that isn't handcuffed by his party's platform and can actually represent his constituents, like he's supposed to.

I'm fully aware that this is throwing my vote away.

This is exactly how I feel. I'll hold my nose and vote for the UCP, but only because there is no other real moderate type party. Kenny can go far, far away. I almost didn't vote for the UCP last time, just because of Kenny.

I don't think they said they were going to:

    Increase property taxes

    Sell public land

    'Bet on business deals'

    Cut rural policing

For a few of them they specifically said the opposite.

Yup, exact same here. Only difference is I would've voted Wildrose if they were still around, I agreed with most of their policies and actually liked Jean for a leader.

Our whole political spectrum is a quagmire, it's too bad this pandemic won't cause IT to fail.

There isn't a party I can reasonably vote for, Provincially or Federally, right now.

Well they can cut rural policing when they allow property owners to shoot whoever they want. Win/win?

Does someone want more government and more spending than the NDP?

    Let's not forget:

Invest in pipeline projects with provincial funds

Bad faith negotiations with public sector groups, including doctors (during a pandemic... lol)

Doubling down on a sunset industry and getting Alberta's credit rating downgraded as a result

Creating a hilarious "war room" that is little more than a laughingstock...

... and filled it with party insiders

    The Bill 10 fiasco

Firing of the investigator that was looking into their election bullshit with the kamikaze candidate

Refused to shut down the Alberta separtism movement, which is polarizing investors

The total bullshit partisan way they were effectively "Anti NDP" and "anti liberals" in their campaign, only to then turn around and file documents tied to their carbon tax lawsuit that shows that most of their claims re: economic impacts of NDP/Liberal policies were horseshit.

Refusing to shut down candidates that were openly racist or homophobic.

    --

    And lots more.

I'm going to vote whomever is most likely to displace the UCP. I don't care who they are.

Morally there isn’t a party worse than the UCP. Most are fine with the moral trade off so long as the fiscal house is order, but...

Fiscally the UCP have been even worse than the NDP, and that was before the big oil price crash (the one Kenney said he predicted before he pushed through a budget that was based off $50+ oil prices). Plus direct UCP action means I’m paying more in taxes under them than I would have under the NDP. Plus the city is worse off as well (less money available, province downloading more costs and taking a bigger slice of the pie all at the same time).

I’ve been able to vote for an Alberta Party candidate with a chance for two elections so that’s what I did. Now that Clark is out, and the AP is even more rudderless than before, I’ll take the well-intentioned incompetence of socialist pipe-dreamers over malicious incompetence of religiously motivated crony capitalists any day.

Without a disconnection between federal and provincial segments of the ndp they'll never get my vote.

The fact that Notley supported the ndp federally is all you need to know

    AB party for sure.

Not perfect, but not the UCP and not the NDP. I cannot stand career politicians like Kenney or Notley - they come with their own baggage.
