If any of you guys are looking for a cheap option you could also consider picking up some rack rails and building your own server rack.

For example, a set of 18U rails costs under $40. Doesn't look as nice but a frame constructed of 2x4 painted black with these rails would probably work for most home setups.

I'm actually in the process of slowly decommissioning my 42U rack and moving everything to smaller wall mounted racks. Re-punching all my cables as well as I originally did them at full length with tons of extra cable in the mechanical room. May have a cheap rack for sale unless I repurpose it somewhere else.

Top of my list is the star tech 36U open frame with casters. But it’s still more than I would prefer to spend.

For me i have 2 1U’s, my amp which is another 2-3U, a few shelves taking 2 U each shelves for Xbox Etc. Would like a rack UPS. 1-2 patch panels, another rack for Sonos amps I would like to get. I feel like 36 just makes sense considering what I want to shoehorn in there with some. Extra space and cooling etc.
Aren't there better solutions than Sonos nowadays?

There are definitely cheaper solutions. Better? I doubt it.

I think there's a few half racks at my work that I can find out if can be sold, fully enclosed and wheels, what's your budget? You would have to move yourself though

I wouldn't recommend these ones if you are looking to have any server equipment in there. Most racks and rails use square holes. With square holes you can mount everything. We have an old Datacenter in Denver that uses those old telco rails....we always have to get special rails ordered just to make equipment work, well we did, until we moved to a new facility which is all square holes.

Here is my rack with the door opened. I like the extra space, so I can throw in a random UPS instead of a rack mount one, cheaper on battery replacements usually.

    My newly acquired console screen:

My network gear is on a shelf above in my server room in it's own little 4U frame

Regarding my buddy and his rail offer, sorry haven't talked to him in a bit, he has been busy with the divorce and such. I will try to reach out and see if he can send me a pic of what he has.

The sizes of those are great, but the QC on those are shit. Spent 2 evenings retapping all those holes because they arnt correct. And you'll end up spending another 200 in hardware if your building a rack and putting some decent casters underneath to hold the weight.

Ive got that Startech 36U Rack, and its been good.
Still trying to get my 1080p KVM Console working right though. I needed 1080p for managing my Kodi install, if i hook up a different monitor, linux (bless it) decides to switch all displays to shitty resolutions and mess up my theatre.

Looks like there are some better deals on it shopping around. What is getting my goat is i can get a 42U with castors for way cheaper then the 36U which needs optional castors lol. pretty sure 42U is too tall though...

I was literally just coming on to post about it! Haha

Great price and a great rack. I can even afford the separate casters at that price!

Just ordered one, looks like they have a few left.

I legit did a double take on that one when I saw it, can’t believe my luck.

Andddd a week later. Order cancelled claiming they do not have the item in stock.

Deal too good to be true.

Placed a new order for the startech 25U with Casters from Newegg/Mikes Computer Shop.

Should still be PLENTY of space.
