    Default Travel within Canada ideas

I’m sure quite a few people had to cancel their trip like I did due to COVID. And I can see any sort of international travel being iffy for the next while here...

I figure we maybe start a thread on ideas where we can travel to within Canada and keep tourism going here this summer/fall.

    Suggestions?

-Waterton national park (easy drive out for the afternoon)
-Drumheller to see all the fun dino stuff
    -Elbow falls/Bragg creek ice cream

Just some stuff I thought off the top of my head. Definitely looking for fun ideas to keep busy this summer/fall. Feel free to include flying somewhere within Canada too.

The ultimate is to load up the RV and do a coast to coast tour...

This would be the perfect time if you have the finances...

Have you ever been to Three Valley Gap just outside of Revelstoke? It's honestly incredible and the story behind the insane property and ghost-town museum they have there is super neat.

There's a tiny back country camping spot just west of there called frog falls I highly recommend looking up.

It's one of my kryptonite campsites. Every time I've gotten a spot there it just pours for days.

I've said it before get this book - https://www.amazon.ca/Camp-Free-B-C-.../dp/0973509937

Don't agree with all the ratings, some of my favorites ended up being listed as an overnight. Some of their destinations I just carried onto the next campground on the list.

When you get to one, write gps lat/long in the book. I usually did a sticky note with a drawn map interpretation of the written instructions. Sadly I had most of them in my old Garmin handheld that refuses to power up now.

It's awesome. They fought with BC Hydro and got permission to generate their own power decades ago. Their museum has cars from the teens, old airplanes, gold rush mining stuff and the actual rail car that Trudeau Senior gave the middle finger to protestors in Salmon Arm (some of the first Trudeau assault on Western Canada that his shit-diaper son proudly continues). Their restaurant has a proper, open-faced, hot roast beef sandwich.
    It's. Awesome.

theres an air bnb in bc that requires a helicopter ride to get to as the cabins that remote. It would be a great 2 week get away.

Cool! Also while you’re in revelstoke, there’s a great cafe called Le Baguette that you must stop by for coffee and sandwiches.

Yes. Plus The Village Idiot is a decent little pub and Revelstoke is such a great hub to get to do many other excellent locations that are <2 hours away.
Revelstoke proper << Golden for nice, but 3 Valley Gap is truly a gem that needs to be seen.
I'm going to spend some time there again, this summer.

My wife and I were thinking of doing this. We were supposed to leave in august for 3 months to Alaska and Yukon but that won’t be happening with the YK and AK border being closed.

However, even with our truck camper being set up for off grid (solar powered and self contained), there are still many limitations with being a tourist in any province; especially in the Maritime provinces. Pretty much every province is advising against travel and most tourism services will be closed with campgrounds closed to out of province residents.

Since both of us got laid off, we are planning to leave in two weeks and spend June-September in BC/AB and try to stick with crown land. If the borders open up in Yukon or Alaska, we will head up there but it sounds like it won’t happen until fall.

Go see the north. Very underrated beauty, especially in summer when they get midnight sun. NWT border is currently closed unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing that. I've always wondered what that place was all about every time I've driven passed it over the years but forgotten to look it up. It looks cool, like the sort of place you'd pull up in unplanned during a stormy night only to find out it's seriously haunted, The Shining styles haha

I highly reccomend highway 99 in bc from Kamloops to Horseshoe Bay. Incredible. Good free camping out there too, or paid camping.
