Nosehill Park bike path loop?

I'm getting bored of my usual bike loop and looking to try something different. I usually bike on pavement but my bike can handle some hard packed gravel/dirt/grass.

I've been reading about Nosehill park and it's bike access. What's the best parking lot of going for a bike ride and are there any loops that are around 10 to 20 km's that will get you back to the lot?

The one off 14th at 64th seems to be less busy when I go there. The one on shag is nuts because it has bathrooms. Keep going north until you hit the lights at 64th. Closer to the winter club and the one halfway between winter club always seems to be a cluster fuck, whereas the 64th I’ve never had an issue.

I don’t think anywhere on nose hill is paved, but lots of well trod trails.
Can’t help you with which routes are certain lengths but in general there are lots of paths to cut back on whenever you feel like it. It’s all pretty connected.

I prefer to find a quiet park in the nearby neighbourhood and ride to Nosehill from there. You can find access like pedbridge or underpass in certain spots. Not sure about 20k loop, may be 10K?

the reds are all paved, most of the blacks along the top are good shape hard-pack gravel. even if you lap the whole thing, it's gonna be less then 20k, hard to get more then 15 out of it. This included paved/hardpack/grassy DH

Nose Hill has paved, packed gravel and single track trails for bikes.

If you want paved, you can do a ~15km loop that includes Nose Hill, a pathway along 14st (connects to Porcupine Valley on Nose Hill), and the pathway just south and parallel of John Laurie and reconnects back to Nose Hill via the pedestrian bridge near Brisebois Dr. Lots of hills but my 4 year old daughter has ridden this loop on her 2 wheeler with some help on the hills.

This big loop gives lots of options regarding where to park but I would avoid the busy lots including the top of Shag by Edgemont and the lot at Brisebois, the paved path goes near both of these lots.

There are packed gravel trails that connect all over the hill if you needed to cut across or wanted something different but the paved path would be a good start and it would be difficult to get lost if you stay paved.

sweet, I'll have to give this a try, what is the total elevation gain on this?

I’ll be damned, I usually stick to the NE side but I’ve somehow never crossed that paved path haha. I’m usually trying to stay away from people anyway.

Any gravel /hybrid should be fine on 90% of nose hill in my mind

I rode on some of the packed gravel paths with bald tires. It was... interesting

I should go head up there and do some exploring again. Some of my old routes are getting a little dull.

Thanks. Lots of good suggestions. I've got a hybrid so should be fine on for almost everything on there. That red loop does look interesting as it will be a good mix of pavement/gravel/grassy.

Plus parking in that neighbourhood gives you a nice descent to finish the day, and no craziness like the shag parking lot

Nose hill is a bit steep, it has some pretty good fun sections where you pick up insane speed. But going uphill is not fun. I looked like a fatman chasing cake.

I would imagine any who doesn't like going uphill would enjoy riding into a flooded creek even less.

Not to get off course too much but depending on what your looking for I found myself riding a section of that old farm just south of Stoney and West of Deerfoot yesterday. Was trying to figure out where the paved path connected from south of Stoney to the North but didn't find it, thinking that it's not complete as of yet. Was pretty fun to be honest, I'm sure some people who seen me from the highway was thinking WTF.

It doesn’t connect. It’s my bane for that area. Have to drive into 96 Ave to get onto the paved path. They are talking about extending it eventually to that section of the greenway

Just did some reading online and it looks like the glenmore reservoir might be a good option as well. All paved from what I can tell with some nice inclines to keep the heart rate up

Yeah the Glenmore Reservoir is always nice and since Weaselhead is kind of a bowl, it's downhill going in and a small climb coming out regardless of which direction you're riding. Good news is the dam is supposed to be opening up soon. I can't believe it's been 3 years already since it closed!

It just occurred to me that I've never actually ridden the north end of the reservoir. I've always gone around the south, so that gives me a bit of exploring to do on my next ride in the area, maybe some time this week.

The fun part is that if you're on a cyclocross or mountain bike there are many dirt trails parallel to this route to make it into a 30% dirt 70% pathway ride.
