    Default Sponsoring a Nanny

Anyone actually go through with this painstaking process?

My wife and I have just started looking for options for our son for September.

He turns one Sept 3rd, but will be considered 9 months adjusted (born 3+ months premature), and daycare doesn't look like an option as we are concerned with him getting sick and ending up back in the NICU/hospital.

We could go for a Canadian Nanny, but they don't seem as reliable. We found a Nanny from the Philippines who just got let go from her employer (sounds like one lost a job due to Covid) so we're not sure if we can sponsor her and speed up the process since she is already in the country. She worked as a nurse in the NICU (need to fact check_ back home which is ideal.

Long story short has anyone gone through this process, or know where to find help? The government site looks like it is in a foreign language, and heard a lot of sites that offer help end up being scams/cash grabs.

Or if anyone knows of a nanny looking for FT work in September we are all ears.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can share!

Fuck HARD NO. Full stop. Do not even bother.

Canadian nannies (nanny’s?) are plentiful and very skilled. No need to bring someone in from overseas.

I went through a couple of Canadian nannies, and you need to be aware you are buying a different thing than when you get the Philippinos. Generally, the Canadians don't clean, and hardly cook, but in my experience, provide excellent childcare.
Make sure you know which kind you want, because it's a real pain to switch them.

I prefer Canadian nannies for childcare.

If you want a housekeeper that takes care of kids, then a Filipino is better.

Settle down bud. That only applies to the Philippinos.

Well she is already here and working 5 minutes from our house.

We do like the idea of having meal prep and light cleaning done.

I've heard a lot of horror stories of Canadian nanny's being unreliable, quitting on short notice, but I guess that can happen with anyone.

Plus we're in Airdrie so while we have the convenience of being 5 minutes from DT, there seem to be a lot less that are willing to come out here.

Why don’t you hire a Filipino who’s already here?

Does your wife work full time? Why do you need a nanny in the first place?

Often times, doing the marth, it’s more cost effective (and WAY better for your child) to just have your wife stay home and look after it. Improves her quality of life and happiness as well.

That's what we are looking at, but she needs to be sponsored. Her family just gave her notice, but my understanding is we still need to apply to hire her through the government.

She does, and she makes a lot more than I do (Dentist). I still do ok and it makes sense that I go back to work as we are still ahead with a Nanny.

Plus I've been home alone this past week for the first time with my son and I don't think i could do it forever, and that was a short week..

Canadian nannies have more reps but Filipino nannies have more rep power. Nothing wrong with either. It really depends on whether you want an ExtraSlow or a MightyPenis.

The one person I know with a nanny loves it. The nanny is from the Philippines, she is amazing with the kids and makes amazing food. I work with a few Filipinos too and they are all just the best people, very generous and caring. That many not help you very much but based on my anecdotal experience I would not hesitate to sponsor someone like that or hire one that is already here. My mom worked her whole life as a teacher and her favorite assistants are always Filipinos. Maybe it's a just a stereotype, but it's a good one haha.

The importing program is shitty and it's fucking close to slavery. We hired a girl who was shackled to this shit family who made her do everything, all hours of the day and one of the fucking parents didn't even have a job. Then we found out 40% of the nannies in our neighbourhood were also in that boat. It's horrible.
They are indentured servants until they earn a PR card. Ours was just finishing her qualifications so she could flee her Masters and was super grateful for the work, respect and pay we gave her. She got her PR and was able to move her kids here thanks to escaping her previous "employer" and because we at her up with a good arrangement.

Summary. If you want a slave - import (and, you're gross).
If you want a rewarding employee caring for the things you care about more than anything, hire from here.

You can, but you're going through an agency (pimp) that leaves you far far less opportunity to interview properly for such an important job and the person who arrives is in massive culture shock with a completely uprooted life.

The only benefit is the desire for virtually free labour because you get to deduct room & board from her tiny salary.
There are better candidates already here who will have less baggage, more experience and actual references.

You're starting to convince me that a Filipino nanny is the way to go.
