Is it too soon to say I rather drive a Miata than a P1 in Calgary?

    That sounds cheap.
*checks... That is cheap! Cook a battery etc in a BMW i8 and you're looking at $50k for a car that's a long long way from P1 territory in... anything.
How hard is it to cook an i8 battery? The one in the P1 just dies if it's not kept on a charger.

I know of one that mysteriously cooked itself and no one knows why. Something crazy like 700+ error codes and like $50k (thankfully) under warranty.

Are you saying the P1's battery suffers catastrophic failure by simply not keeping it plugged in? WtF?!

Yes, if you forget to plug the P1 in, go away for several weeks, you will come back to a six figure bill. Also if you lose power, when it comes back on the P1 charger doesn't automatically restart, you have to do it manually.

    Ok, that's pretty weird.
Still... Shouldn't one's butler's gardener's butler be tending to that sort of thing?

You’d think there is a compatible Tesla device to act like a ups in this case?

Dunno. I mean... Consult with your staff.
One of the wealthiest people I know is paid by the wealthiest person he knows to... Take care of the guy's GT2-RS and Martini & Rossi Cup Car, etc etc.

I can't afford a million dollar car and I'm not ashamed of that, not should anyone else be. But if folks think that the expenses end with the price of the car, then LoL!!

Or just use a... you know... UPS. Tesla's not the first company to make that kind of thing.

Bill for a P1 battery replacement is now over $120k and depends on what else needs to be done. Its the reason we sold our P1 https://karenable.com/mclaren-p1-farewell/
In addition to the cost, you have to worry about availability of parts. So, yes the bill sucks, but so does having your $1mm hypercar laid up with no certainty to when the parts will be available to actually get it back on the road. As I understand it, there are ~2 dozen or so P1s throughout the US in such a state. Similar for LaFs.

While most parts & service costs are generally commensurate with the (new) value of a vehicle, there is some relative ceiling for like-for-like parts, like batteries.

Only as long as the butler's gardener's butler is properly trained in monitoring the charging equipment... Like knowing that the 'charging' and 'not charging' light on the LaFerrari charger are both indicated by a sequence of green lights

My preference is the leave the ICE doing ICE things, and the electricity for christmas lights.

Number is higher for LaFas. P1s I think it is about a dozen now. McLaren has promised a new battery upgrade for years but yet to deliver.

I can see people saying "batteries are batteries" but a large portion of that goes out the window on a $Million car. (In my opinion).

On the other point, if the staff can't handle the scope of work, get more or better staff. Hire a Mechanical Engineer. I mean seriously... Not to sound #Beyond but it's a million-dollar-car. You've got inconceivable wealth to actually afford that, or, you can't afford it.

Was confused earlier thinking you guys meant Lexus LFAs. Now I understand you mean LaFerrari.
While I certainly appreciate the inconvenience of a vehicle being out of commission. I'd suggest driving one of the others within the fleet of 10. The average new Ferrari buyer is purchasing that as their either 4th of 5th car. Keep in mind one of those existing cars is already a Ferrari, otherwise they couldn't be buying a new one.
A LaFerrari buyer is a long way from an average Ferrari buyer and they probably have 5+ new Ferraris in their fleet already to complement a stable worth millions.

In short, it's not like they're hitchhiking while the LaFerrari is in the shop.

No but having a car that's unusable for an extended period is quite irritating.

    And a BUMP for 2024...
My friend who should be in charge of keeping his friend from fisting his 918 has found that the genius owner fucked up and let his $2MM car make for battery die. Fuck.

But so far, it sounds like he's got a small chance of getting away with it. Is this just another case where British cars gobble the turds of Ze Germans?
Don't get me wrong. I'm rooting for this guy merely because I like him, but Holy Fuck - here we are again with the "why the fuck didn't your Butler's gardener's Butler square this shit up?¿!!¿!¡!??" scenario.
