Default Rogers retentions BS... any insight?

So Im trying to redo our phone contracts. My wifes phone was paid off in march and mine at the end of april. To my surprise we were still charged the full amount in May as if we had balances on on our phones.

I get on the chat with rogers, and they say because we did not reach out to them at the end of the phones' pay off period, we will be charged at the same rate monthly, regardless of the phone being paid off, and there will be no credit. WTF?

Anyone experience this? Weve been with Rogers for 13 years.... this just feels like theft.

Cancel. I left Rogers years ago after a bunch of bullshit like this and it was a great decision.

How is your plan done? Did you get the phones 'for free' and its baked into the plan or is it a plan + tab balance you are paying off? If its the former they're screwing you over and keeping the inflated cost. If its the latter then it should drop your monthly amount once the tab balance is paid off.

Either way though, Rogers is garbage and you should switch to someone else. You can keep your same numbers and everything.

Btw what plans do you have?

I hate how you have to call in multiple times, they play dumb and then eventually giving you what you asked for after the whole run around.

I wish you luck and hope you can find the solution you are looking for. However, if you can't work something out, I can give you a friends and family discount code to use at TELUS. I think right now for mobility it gets you 20% off any in market rate plan.

    THIS?

they have since changed to plan + financing of phone. previously it's always been together with, so even after 2 years you're still paying the same amount.

Yeah I can't ever recall any phone company proactively lowering your rates after your phone's been paid off. Hell, I've heard of people trying to call in to get a lower rate after it's been paid off and they still get the run around.

Been a while since I did the retentions thing, but when I dealt with Rogers I asked to have the offer put on my account notes and for them to provide both an agent ID and a interaction ID. Been almost a decade since then though so it's probably changed.

Koodo does a plan + tab so it auto drops once the tab is paid off.

*Insert @ExtraSlow public mobile referral code

I'm also good to refer for Zoomer; it's Robbers network anyways.

The $36 plan is most people's go-to; take the phone as a hand-me-up to a family member / sell it

Same here - I left after 12 years with them - after they suddenly cancelled my retention plan and jacked up my monthly rate from 65$ - 120$ a month.

When I called in to inquire - they said 'BUT WE OFFER NHL HOCKEY NOW ON YOUR PHONE'. This is somehow worth doubling my rate? Something I never use?

I was 20 year Roger’s customer with a few lines, because of BS I left them for Bell, and as soon as the contract is over in July, switching all my phones to Telus, since I get a work discount. There is truly no value in being loyal to the big 4. You get better deals as a new customer anyway.

That's the big thing. I went from Rogers (10+ years) -> TELUS (3 years) -> Bell (2 years). Bell has been the best so far, which is very surprising because they double-billed me for someone else's bill while auto charging my moms Amex back when I was 16. They forced me to FAX over 200+ pages of documents they sent me in the first place, my Amex statements, etc.

Here I am at 33 having just given Bell $170/mo for the past two years. D'oh.
