I simply want to know.
a) How is the rock chip protection?
b) Does the installer wrap the door jambs
c) What's the durability like in Calgary?
d) Does a good wrap get you laid?

I don't care about A - C but D is a must know!

If you’re talking about vinyl wrap it gets destroyed by rocks. My old c63 was like that, and my current e53 (black wrapped chrome trim) is like that.

A) Protection is garbage. Lots of people will get vinyl wrap and do 3M on top. Or have 3M already and do vinyl on top for actual protection. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
B) coloured vinyl typically goes around the corners so from the outside you don't see any breaks in the colour.
C) See A.
D) Depends on your game.
Vinyl wrap is all for looks.
I wrapped my mirrors and roof black, XPEL'd them, and then full ceramic coating on top too.
A) it’s a pretty good. I put 30,000 summer KMs over 5 years on my M3 and the only spot I had to re-wrap from chips was the hood. Usually took a big rock to leave a mark. Could avoid this by doing another layer of clear film as mentioned
A1) I wrapped my 135 and it survived underwater for a week during the floods
B) good installer will if you wish
C) I just drove summers but it held up quite well between April - Nov
D) No but it’ll keep you free of children and stds
135 after flood
M3 after 5 years of wrap

Is that the 3M 1080 perfect blue? That is the color that I want!
You must have been drowning in while your vehicle was drowning in Elbow river flood water.

Those were 1080 matte metallic blue. Received lots of compliments on the colour.

So vinyl wrap then ppf over it is the recommendation? Repeat every 5 years or so.
And red rims.

I think you got the answer for C from everyone. Vinyl offers ZERO chip resistance. Most places will wrap the jams. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There is color PPF. if it you are not looking at something fancy, color PPF may be the way to go. There's aout 30 color PPFs in the market right now.
Now if the wrap you want is something fancy then its recommended that you PPF over it which is consdiered quite a bit of $$$
Cheers,
OK, more wrap questions:
- is 3M 1080 still 'the shit' in terms of durability/longevity?
- is wrapping your average sedan still about 3-4k$?
Which brands have the colored PPFs? I didn't see a whole lot on the 3M, Stek, and Xpel websites. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Avery, 3M 1080 and VVivid are all good products if installed correctlyThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I’m looking at getting a big fat coupe wrapped right now and looking between $3500-$5k.

There's another one that will be launching sometime this month with 20+ colors. It's by VPS and film is called Aero https://youtu.be/3HGDpK7ubL0
No, I do not know how good are they. GSWF has been out for 6 months now and coming from my installer friends in North America who have tested it, gave it a pretty good review.
AERO I have no tried or test.
Please do take note that colored PPF are different from vinyl. They are much thicker so they won't be able to wrap corners/edges etc like vinyl.

Edit: Looks like it. They have an extra thicc version 10 mil version to. Bubble gum pink to go with the red rims.

That colored PPF is pretty neat. If it shows to be good quality long term, one could purposely buying a white/black car, then PPF the color of their choice.
If they get bored in 5 years, it's still a white/black car underneath. Other paint colors could be ok, but figured it would look pretty ugly if chips happened over the years.
