We didn't fight a war. We signed treaties. Canada's actions since that time have had lots of things to be ashamed of, things that have had a generational impact to the FN.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I think it's more "chicken shit" to not acknowledge this. A one time payment is not the way to fix these types of problems. It's a long path, but a good place to start is to stop being such an asshole.

I think I'm misunderstanding your misunderstanding. My beef everytime someone brings up "the last one closed in 96" is that it perpetuates the myth that Residential Schools and all the child rapity-rape were proceeding at full speed with no end in sight until a magic date in 1996. Like as if children were being stolen from reserves, en masse and entering an organized rape facility like they were on a conveyor belt at a slaughterhouse in 1996 society. It's extremely inaccurate and very offensive to suggest that "we" were doing this in 1996.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The reality is that nearly all of them were closed decades before 1996. And, the one that remained open in the early 90's was not following the same alleged atrocities that occurred decades earlier. It was well known in the 90's that everything "white people" have ever done to, for, or with Indians was based on pure evil and genocidal intents.
It was part of the school curriculum and likely still is.

So well said. This is a nice debate about a landmine issue. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I am neither black nor native; but, I don't see how that should magically qualify my opinion to be suddenly more validated. I mean for nothing in my post to indicate my feelings about the intentions of Residential Schools. I have some opinions about that, but there's nothing here about that and it's not the derailed subject at hand. I do not doubt that many horrible atrocities occurred in these facilities and you are correct that it has had a detrimental effect on our Indigenous folks.
My issue is that date. As I mentioned, that date is brought up for the sole purpose of perpetuating a myth.
They closed when they closed and that's a fact. I don't care when the last single one closed, I care when the other 99.5% of them closed, and that certainly wasn't 1996. It's not up to us to spin "when they closed" into constantly referring to 1996 to avoid morons in society from going "well that was a long time ago". That's not fair and fairness is the path we need to be walking down to help generate some more equitable situations for our Indians.
Like mentioned above, I'm not black or indigenous. I am "white" which is a fictional ethnic group. While I enjoy many advantages simply due to my birth colour, I really resent the unfairness of my imaginary ethnic group being lumped together with other people of perceived similar colour who my actual ethnic group may literally be enemies with and certainly not "teammates". Not one person from my ethnic group or family had arrived in Canada during the initial colonization. But because I'm perceived as the same colour as those alleged oppressors, I'm painted with that brush.
I'm not those people and it's racist to say I am. That's not helping bridge this gap.

Yes, let's rename it after a shitty chef catch phrase.

Any government that's been in power since the dawn of time doesn't want to touch that political football. If COVID has taught us anything, Canada will just print more funny money and shovel it into a failed FN reserve system. At some point though the taps need to be turned off, this isn't sustainable for anyone going forward. I'm sick of this shit government apologising for something that happened to people who've been dead for decades. The people responsible for the genocides are dead, this isn't our burden to carry forever. Move on.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There were wars all over what is now Canada and the US, the settlers won and we now have governments and legal borders. We can't go back in history and reconcile every war ever fought in the world, that's just inconceivable. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

History is fked. We know that. Every society has done some real dirty shit, held slaves, suppressed people etc. I would say NA is the best of the worst. It's not perfect but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. As a refugee immigrant, I made it, so you can too. Idk.

Watching these dopey socialist/marxist protestors really affirms the view that capitalists really should be running things.
As far as I can tell, these guys want the Loser Class to run things.

it's a bit ironic your upset at the special priviledge FN get when the entire purpose of the indian act was to annihilate and remove first nation history. Its sole purpose was designed to eradicate the indian. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Now that it's not convenient for some we must change things? LOL. Let me grab you a tissue for your tears.
Tears? Hardly lol. The FN, despite all the help they get from the government, are their own enemy. It’s not the white man they have to fear anymore, it’s themselves. How much longer can their reserve system survive, I doubt it’ll make it to the end of the century. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Looks like the CHAZ or whatever zone it’s called in Seattle is getting shut down finally. Multiple people dead, blocks vandalized, who knows how many assaulted, all for nothing. Bunch of whiny little liberal idiots with nothing more than Arts degrees and no job.
