Default Online poker, genius idea? Or stupidity?

Just sitting here pre-drinking for my regular Saturday online poker game with buddies. Had an idea.

What if one person ran two accounts at the same online table? Wouldn't that give them an advantage in that they could know a larger selection of the cards, and obviously not compete against each other.

So what say you, genius or stupid?

As mentioned, you can't do that. However, nothing stops you and a buddy or two, from all playing in the same location so you can discuss your hands. But I was fairly certain that table selection was random just so that people can't do this and gang up on a table?

Lots of games try to prevent teaming. Off the top of my head randomized table assignments and IP detection to check for multiple accounts in the same household would be the main two.

But you could def call a friend and just conspire against each other

Lots of collusion goes on with online poker. Guys in different cities play in the same game discussing hands offline while the game is happening pumping up the donkeys and then eventually sharing in the profits. They used to do it by sending each other money on the sites but that got caught onto. There are so many ways it is gross. I will only play live now and maybe online with some buddies.

IP detection? I play on my FTTH connected device and my son plays right next to me on his mobile connected device. No amount of IP detection will figure out we're sitting on the same couch.

I don't play cash games online with stranger anymore. I'm a terrible poker player. I mostly play "play money" with friends. We keep track of buy-ins and sent e-transfers the next day.

First of all, getting on the same table is difficult. Second, they flag accounts that appear together on the same table too often. This is like asking would counting cards at casino blackjack be a good idea. If you can get away with it, sure. But they know what to look out for.

It depends at how you look at it, it can be genius or stupid.

I'd avoid doing this on a larger site like Pokerstars/Partypoker/888 etc becuase they actually spend millions per year to catch this.

I mean it's not exactly "smart" either way since it's pretty easy to catch collusion and since we all have IP addresses you would not be allowed to sit at the same table as someone else in the same house as you and if the sites do investigate and see two IP addresses from Calgary it's going to raise some additional alarms.

With that said if you wanted to do this I'd suggest not doing it in NL but PLO since you could eliminate 4 cards rather than 2 but it's pretty easy as a player to notice collusion if you do not play a hand vs someone else at the table, ever.

There was a huge "Bot ring" on pokerstars a few years back though that Pokerstars did miss until the players brought it up. Here is a link to a thread on it. https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...-them-1537778/

They ended up stealing about 1.6 million USD from players, I'm not sure how much of that got confiscated and how much they got off the sites.

This is similar to going to play Poker at the casino and avoiding a friend, even though you might not be sharing your hands you could be using hand signals or something.

It happens but thankfully some sites spend millions a year or catching it, a bigger issue is "GTO Bots" which is just a computer program telling you what to do in every spot. There is sites like ACR who just don't give a shit about it and again some like Pokerstars/Full tilt that do stop it.

I play heads-up (1 on 1) and on probably 80% of the online sites "bots" are a huge issue, which are usually smaller unregulated sites.

With all that said I'm going to tell you to avoid Poker (Casinos or Online) because you are not good and you will lose money.

The games online are more difficult for a lot of reasons which I'm not going to get into right now maybe tomorrow but there is much more information online and people tend to study the math aspect of it when they play online much more then "live regs"

I guess I can go on answering questions regarding poker in this thread though.

AGAIN YOU SUCK AT POKER DO NOT PLAY ONLINE OR AT THE CASINO YOU WILL LOSS MONEY, YOUR FRIEND WILL LOSE MONEY, about 90% of people loss money in poker it's not easy I don't care if you think you are good you might win here and there and feel you are unstoppable but you aren't good.

If you do not know what this is you will be a losing poker player.

This is true, but AI has to be programmed and can not adjust so a non GTO AI Bot can be exploited if you know what you are doing.

There is a brains vs AI that was done: https://www.alphr.com/artificial-int...nity-yet-again

The AI Libratus was like 10k or 100k to run per day though.

On a side not Limit Heads-up Holdem got solved by UofA a few years back: http://poker.cs.ualberta.ca/publicat...ed.acm2017.pdf

You just haven't raised any flags you would be surprised, when you have the clients open they can see which devices you are running and what is on your screen, it's used to detect collusion.

Also having knowledge of card elimination doesn't do much help if you don't know the math aspect and doesn't play a huge roll with only 2 cards eliminated..

you know your hand (2 cards)
you know your friends hand (2 cards)

there is still 48 cards remaining, lets say you see a flop there is still 45 cards left in the deck, but if you hold an As and can analyze it and your friend holds the Ah then you know there is only 2 Aces left rather than 3 in this spot which can give you an edge if you know how to use that data to your advantage, like counting cards in blackjack as someone stated. If you both had a -20% ROI overall playing poker you might now have a -10% ROI you're still losing but to avoid detection you can't always play the the same table, so it might go down to like -15% ROI only Depending on your skill levels.

Edit: if you want to apply for pokerstars they are always hiring.
