    Default LF: Rust repair recommendations?

The windshield requires replacement, and there's a bit of rust around the top of the windshield. So looking to find a place that'll do this at an affordable price. The truck's got 422k km on it, so it doesn't need to look factory fresh. Just mainly looking to repair it to prevent further rust.

    Suggestions would be great!

    Top of windshield:

Also, some other rust spots which would be "nice to repair"
    Bottom of the rear door:

    Rear Tire Well:

    Rear bumper requires pulling out:

Roof will be a quick sand and repair but you may need to pull the windshield to see if the rust has gone behind it.
    Door just replace
Fender will be cut and weld

    Will also be repainting involved

firebane - yes the windshield does need to be replaced anyway, hence I was thinking of doing it at the same time.

As for the doors, I checked a wrecker, they wanted $650/rear door, then, of course, I would then have to repaint. Looking for the most economical method which will stop the rust.

As for rear wheel well, it's surface rust, so thinking of sanding it down, use some rust converter, then primer and some paint, Put on a set of fender flares and we're golden. Don't even need to paint.

Door's fucked. That type of rust is from the inside. Replace door or get a new skin put on but don't expect miracles. If it is a door from the wreckers it likely has the same problem. Door skin all depends on the extent of the rust inside the door. Unless it it is all cleaned out (near impossible) the rusty door frame will start rusting the new skin. Roof looks pretty bad. Sanding and painting will buy you some time but nothing will stop it short of a new roof skin. Box side looks like it is on the outside so it may be salvageable. Sand and repaint and cross fingers. Bumper, replace brackets and good to go. Rust is a bitch. Once it starts it is pretty much impossible to stop.

Just an update. I've been getting some pretty wide ranges for quotes on rust repair. One shop I've gone to in the past, Pacific Autobody, quoted $2k w/ the windshield for just the roof. Another, Hinz, off of McKnight & 12th Street NE, quoted $800 + windshield for the roof.

I think I'm going to hit up a few more places just in case to see if the right price is closer to the $800 mark.

Clever - I'll approach these shops with the potential of additional work from other members. The only way a "group buy" can work is really just a discounted rate. Bodywork, in general, is hard to have firm prices on unless the scope is totally clear.

For those who're interested in a "group buy" for bodywork services, please chime in here. I'll approach the body shops to see if they're interested in a potential stream of business from fellow automotive enthusiasts.

Just keep in mind that each body shop has a different combination of cost/price, quality, and customer service of doing the work. I'm personally not needing the quality of work that Maranello provides for my truck.

For your fender damage, you could look at something like I just did on my wife's car, it's a rubber double sided fender flare....goes on easy with a heatgun and hides the damage + hopefully protects a bit. I did sand the spot down and paint it with rust paint just to hopefully prevent spread, but probably bought a few years of it progressing. I had damage on front fender and must more severe damage in the back. I cleaned it all out, sanded, rust paint and then rock guard spray on the inside of the fender to hopefully provide some protection.

This is what I bought but comes in various widths and such: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/4pcs-1-5M-3-...53.m2749.l2649

Can see it installed in this pic:

The door edge I am trying to repair myself right now...but have to redo, was impatient and fucked up the clear coat

This was my original front fender damage:

    And my rear:

Edit here is the before and after with the fender rubber thing. Seems to look alright. This was the undamaged side of the car but naturally I had to make it symmetric

I might be in for some body repair professionally.....depending how my second attempt at the door goes and if I can make it look good to my liking, being a perfectionist fucking blows when it comes to body work.

Now that you know how much work it is..... How much would you like to charge for that fender and door repair?

Yeah, I guess group buy is not the best term but if any shop if willing to give a discount for more work, I’m definitely interested. The rust damage on mine is quite extensive:

Really you need to ask yourself, is it really worth fixing...
