gpomp - stock is not two tone. I wanted to do the bedliner tinted factory colour to give a sutble contrast (simulated fender flares), similar to the Eddie Bauer edition Fords

    Here's mine:

Needed a new windshield for my truck. Couldn't do it unless I fixed the rust as it was that bad....shop grinded it down and there ended up to be handful of holes, so had to cut and weld new metal in place. I opted to have the roof finished with spray liner and color matched to my truck.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Really smart on a truck. Nice choice.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Thanks ExtraSlow. Looking to "de-chrome" either with flat black or spray body coloured paint or bedliner again

I went and had a local body shop give me an estimate on some rust repair I would like done on the front fenders and rear quarters, he stated the front fenders were fine and could be blasted and painted but the rear quarter panels had to be replaced as they are two layers of metal together and the rust has probably gotten between them and replacement is the only proper way to do get rid of the rust. He stated that he could fake fix it but it would only last a year so, I took a look at the quarters myself and I could not see how its two pieces of metal together, it looks like 1 solid piece and there was small amounts of rust no further than a couple inches in.

I want to get this resolved before winter hits if possible, am I looking at actually replacing the quarter panels or is there another permanent way to get rid of it that doesn't involve selling the vehicle?

This is on a Mercedes Benz R550

Replied to your PM, I forgot to mention when I took my car to R&J auto body they called around for me to see if they can get quarter panels for my car but since it’s older it is not available, so maybe give them a shot and see if they can get quarter panels for your car. If not Power Chief auto body is what R&J recommended if you want them to cut and weld a new piece of metal but the shop that did @JDMMAN ’s truck give a 5 year warranty, I’d call them too.

I had a few random quotes on a really bad rear wheel rust hole and pricing is all over the map. So i sanded it down, added mesh patches and caked on the bondo lol. Thinking of half ass sanding and then possibly spraying the car with a colored matched Linex bed liner spray to see how it turns out. If it looks good I might do the roof as well as I have a few rust spots forming.

While this method works in the short term, the rust usually reappears after one winter, tried this years ago with a black Integra. Never again...

Definitely agree, unless you don't value your time spent doing a half-assed job. The overall cost will be less if it's done right the first time.
